  • Patent number: 7389710
Abstract: A retractor clamp assembly includes a clamp positionable about a support ring. A retractor shaft extends from the clamp and has a connector at the end with a retractor blade connected thereto by a stem. The connector is preferably equipped with a first slot limiting the side to side angular range of motion of the retractor blade stem relative to the retractor shaft, and a second slot limiting the top to bottom range of motion of the retractor blade stem relative to the retractor shaft. This allows the retractor blade to be maintained and/or positioned in an optimum position relative to retracted tissue while allowing the retractor shaft to be selectively positioned by a user.

  • Patent number: 6887198
Abstract: A gooseneck positioner secures a fixed support to one of a surgical spreader retractor and a connection head on a retractor blade. The positioner prevents the two retractor blades from riding out of an incision during a surgical operation. The gooseneck mechanism allows for the relative easy placement and then securing of the positioner at a desired location.

  • Patent number: 6736775
Abstract: A clamping device, preferably for use on a retractor support, has an upper clamp and a lower clamp. The clamps include a movable jaw and a fixed jaw pivotal between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration which both locks the clamps in a shut configuration and fixes the angular position of the clamps relative to one another. A drawbar and cam act together to compress the upper and lower clamps into a clamping or locking position.

  • Patent number: 6733444
Abstract: A surgical retractor includes a side loading socket configured to receive a connector head. A linearly moveable slide retains the connector head within the socket cavity. The slide has a convex face outwardly from the socket cavity which assists in “snapping” in a connector head. A convex inner face assists in retaining an inserted connector head. A notch in the tip of the slide assists in preventing rotation of a connector head having opposing locking pins when one of the pins is received in a recess at the back of the socket cavity. A grip is connected to the slide which may move the slide from a locked to a released position within a slot in the socket body.

  • Patent number: 6729205
Abstract: A multi-position ratchet mechanism has a retractor holder which receives a retractor stem connected to a retractor. A pawl selectively engages the retractor stem to allow for the retractor stem to be positioned relative to the retractor holder. The retractor holder has a passage and is connected at a base pivot to a base having a toothed hub. The toothed hub extends into the passage and a locking mechanism connected to the retractor holder allows for the selection of a pivot angle of the retractor holder relative to the base. The base rotates relative to a ring holder in a first configuration. In a second configuration a rotation angle between the base and the ring holder is set and locked with a locking actuator. The locking actuator is a cam actuator with drives a cam surface about a locking pivot to allow contact surface between the base and the ring holder to contact one another. A retaining mechanism selectively maintains a ring in a slot in the ring holder.

  • Patent number: 6645141
Abstract: Surgical retractor apparatus is shown having at least two independently operable clamping locations for receiving pivot balls therein. These two clamping locations lock and unlock their respective pivot balls independent of locking of the other pivot ball. Furthermore, the locking mechanisms utilized to lock the pivot balls also utilize the lock the angular position of the extension rod relative to the clamp. An adjuster intermediate the clamping positions allows for the movement of the clamping location relative to each other.
