  • Patent number: 8083443
Abstract: A jig for cutting plugs for pocket holes from a workpiece has a base leg, from which transversely extend guide and clamp legs. One or more guide channels extend through the guide leg at an angle to an interior face of the guide leg to guide the sleeve of a rotating cutter bit that has a cutting edge at its end and a removed section forming a cutting blade. A clamp extends from the clamp leg to engage one face of a workpiece whose end is mounted on a raised ledge on the base leg and holds the workpiece opposing face against the guide leg interior surface as the sleeve end cutting edge and blade advances into and cuts entirely through the workpiece to cut the plug. A collar on the cutting bit shaft engages the guide leg to prevent the sleeve end cutting edge from contacting the base leg. The jig also can be used for making pocket holes by using the appropriate drill bit.

  • Patent number: 8016005
Abstract: A combination mortise and tenon jig has a body including a platform having an open section with first and second clamp legs on opposite sides for holding a workpiece therebetween with the workpiece part in which a mortise or tenon is to be cut facing toward the open section. A plurality of adjustable members extend from the first clamp leg to engage a workpiece face and the second clamp leg is movable relative to the open section with the extending members and the second clamp leg holding the workpiece at a selected position in the open section. A pair of guide arms pivotally mounted below the platform swing across the platform open section to engage the workpiece part and make it parallel to the platform and a template having a cutout pattern of one of a mortise or tenon overlies the platform open section to guide a router bit to cut the mortise or tenon in the workpiece end.

  • Patent number: 7828024
Abstract: A jig to make the pin and tail parts of a dovetail joint in first and second workpieces has a frame with front, bottom, and top walls. A plurality of spaced rails form first guide slots in a first section of the frame front and top walls and a plurality of posts form second guide slots in a second section of the front wall. Fasteners on the frame bottom wall clamp the jig to one face of the first workpiece with an end facing the plurality of first guide slots and clamp the jig to one face of the second workpiece with the second plurality of guide slots facing the plurality of second guide slots. The guide slots guide a router cutter bit when in each of the first and second slots to cut into respective first and second workpieces ends to make the joint pin and tail parts.

  • Patent number: 7484914
Abstract: A fixture for drilling a pocket hole in a working face of workpieces of different thicknesses is a U-shaped member having a guide leg and a clamp leg parallel to each other and joined together at a bottom end of each by a transverse base leg. An angled guide channel is in the guide leg that has an entrance for a drill bit on an exterior part of the guide leg and an exit on an interior face which opposes the workpiece working face. A plurality of horizontal elongated ribs are spaced vertically apart on the guide leg interior below the guide channel exit and there is a shelf having a face on which a second face of the workpiece that is transverse to the working face is to rest and that has an edge with a plurality of horizontal vertically spaced ribs to inter-engage with the ribs on said guide leg. A screw extends outwardly from the shelf to extend through a slot in the guide leg and a nut fastens the screw against the guide leg to hold opposing ribs of the guide leg and shelf inter-engaged.

  • Patent number: 7137766
Abstract: A screw-plastic part unit in which the plastic part can be a guide having a tapered bottom end for fitting into a countersink to center the tip end of the screw in the countersink and also can have at least one cut-out portion at its top end to facilitate fracturing of the guide as the screw is threaded into a base member. In one embodiment the screw has a thread between its head and tip end which extends to near the tip end leaving a clear area between the thread end tip end and the part of plastic material molded around the screw clear area in which there can be a circumferential groove or rib into or over which the plastic part is molded to better hold the part to the screw. In another embodiment fins extend into the part hole to hold the screw by an interference type fit.

  • Patent number: 7101123
Abstract: A fixture for drilling pocket holes in workpieces of different thicknesses is formed of a U-shaped member having parallel guide and clamp legs and joined by a transverse base leg. One or more guide channels are formed in the guide leg at an angle to the guide leg that has an external entrance for a drill bit and an exit on the guide leg interior opposite a first surface of the workpiece in which a hole is to be drilled. There is a floor on which a second surface, the narrow edge, of the workpiece that is transverse to the workpiece first surface is to rest that is vertically adjustable relative to the guide channel exit, and an adjustable screw clamp threaded in the clamp leg to engage a third surface of the workpiece opposite the workpiece first surface to hold the workpiece first surface against the interior surface of said guide leg during the time a drill bit is advanced in the guide channel to the workpiece first surface.

  • Patent number: 7001118
Abstract: A dowel jig for making holes in a member such as a board to accept dowels for projecting toward corresponding holes for receiving the dowels to make butt, end and T type dowel joints for two members. The jig has a base having an internal planar area and at least one hole transversely through the planar area and a transverse leg at each end of the base. A foot is at the outer corner junction of each base end and transverse leg and the lower surfaces of both feet lie in a common plane that is parallel to the base internal planar area so that when the lower surfaces of the feet are placed on the flat upper surface of a member the base hole will be transverse to the flat surface to permit aligned passage of a drill bit to drill a hole in the member transverse to the flat surface. Notches are provided in each of the feet along a line that passes through the hole center to hold a rod in which a hole is drilled.

  • Patent number: 7000519
Abstract: A clamp to make a straight edge on a working board has a base with a lower surface to slide on a table saw and a main wall that extends upward from the base. A lower support extends outwardly from the main wall in opposite directions, and two upper supports extend outwardly from the main wall in opposite directions to define channels, wherein a reference board is placed in one channel and the working board in the other channel. A shim arm is pivotally mounted to and extends along the base. A shim support pad is mounted at the free end of the arm and its upper surface is in the same plane as the upper surface of the base. The shim arm swings out from the base so that the pad forms a support on which the working board rests to effectively increase the width of the base.

  • Patent number: 6394712
Abstract: A fixture for joining two work pieces by pocket hole joints has a base to be mounted to or movable along a table or other member and a drill guide having one or more angled drill guide channels is mounted to the base to be movable toward and away from the table top on which the work pieces are placed. In one embodiment a toggle type clamp on the base carries the drill guide. In another embodiment the base has an upper arm above the work pieces and the drill guide is mounted on the end of a screw that is threaded into the upper arm. The drill guide is moved by the toggle clamp or screw against the work pieces to hold them clamped to the table and a drill bit is advanced in each angled guide channel into the work pieces to form a pocket joint. A screw is driven through a guide channel into the previously drilled pocket hole to join the work pieces.
