    Abstract: Hair dyeing compositions are disclosed which contain an N-substituted o-phenylenediamine, the N-substituent being an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl. These give reddish shades by purely oxidative means, and the shades are fast to wet treatments and are long-wearing. Also disclosed are methods of dyeing hair with these compositions, as well as certain novel compounds suitable for the purpose, e.g., N-(alkoxyalkyl)-o-phenylenediamines.
