Patent number: 9694518Abstract: Disclosed are articles having authentication features, as well as methods for authenticating such articles by forming authentication features to prevent or diminish counterfeiting activities. A surface of an article to be authenticated (or a surface of a component associated with the article) may have a region with a periodic array of nanopillars comprising a polymeric material formed thereon. The array of nanopillars thus defines an authentication feature (e.g., a graphic image or other pattern). In certain aspects, the authentication feature may be substantially invisible to the human eye under normal conditions, but revealed when condensate is created on the surface by exposure to moisture or vapor (e.g., human breath). The methods of forming nanopillar arrays disclosed herein are simple and permit single-step replication with high fidelity. Furthermore, the methods may be used with a variety of substrates, including fabric, textiles, leather, glass, paper, and metals by way of non-limiting example.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2015Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: The Regents Of The University of MichiganInventors: Nicholas A. Publication number: 20050233140Abstract: Disclosed is a polytrimethylene terephtalate conjugate fiber having high self-crimpability, which is prepared by conjugate-spinning two types of polytrimethylene terephtalates having different intrinsic viscosities in which a difference between the intrinsic viscosities ranges from 0.05 to 0.15 into a side-by-side fiber. Also, the polytrimethylene terephtalate conjugate fiber prepared by the conjugate-spinning undergoes a false twisting process, leading to development of three-dimensional high self crimpability and sufficient bulky property in the resulting fiber.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2003Publication date: October 20, 2005Applicant: HUVIS CORPORATIONInventors: Tae-Hwan Oh, Jung-Hun Hyun, Byeong-Il Kim, Jin-Soo Ham

Patent number: 6100764Abstract: A pre-amp circuit including a photodiode, first and second amplifiers and a differential amplifier reduces or eliminates noise in an input signal. The photodiode converts an external optical signal into an electrical signal which includes noise. The first amplifier amplifies the difference between an output voltage of the photodiode, including the noise, and the reference voltage, to generate a difference signal which includes a first noise component. The second amplifier buffers the reference voltage to generate a signal which includes a second noise component which is in-phase with the first noise component. The differential amplifier amplifies the difference between the voltages output from the first and second amplifiers to generate an output signal which is substantially devoid of such noise. The present invention is amenable to application in remote control receiver systems.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1999Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Byeong-Il Kim
