    Abstract: A method for operating a lock screen in an electronic device includes displaying a two-dimensional geometric shape on a screen, receiving at least one user input that crosses and divides the two-dimensional geometric shape into multiple portions, receiving touches on each of the multiple portions in a sequence, and comparing the sequence of the touches on each of the multiple portions with a pre-defined sequence. An electronic device for operating a lock screen includes a touch screen configured to display a two-dimensional geometric shape on a screen, a controller configured to detect at least one user input that crosses and divides the two-dimensional geometric shape into multiple portions, detect touches on each of the multiple portions in a sequence, and compare the sequence of the touches on each of the multiple portions with a pre-defined sequence. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
