  • Patent number: 7528926
Abstract: An apparatus for printing spacers on a substrate of an LCD includes a spacer supply roller having a plurality of recesses formed in its exterior surface. A plurality of uniform volumes of an ink containing the spacers is loaded into the recesses and then transferred from the supply roller onto a transfer belt that is arranged to move tangentially with respect to the supply roller by means of a transfer roller and an auxiliary roller. The LCD substrate is then moved tangentially with respect to the moving transfer belt such that the ink volumes on the transfer belt are transferred onto the substrate at selected locations thereon. The continuously rotating components of the apparatus enable it to accommodate LCD panels of any size without the need for large spacer supply substrates and transfer rollers and prevent the inadvertent deposition of multiple layers of spacers on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7487722
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a display panel includes a printing plate having a plurality of recesses formed on its surface and a hole formed at at least one end thereof, a transfer roller for receiving ink injected in the recesses, a supporting plate for supporting a substrate thereon, wherein the ink from the transfer roller is transferred onto the substrate according to a rotation of the roller, and an ink re-using unit positioned in the hole. Productivity can be improved by reducing a fabrication cost by provision of the ink re-using unit to re-use ink.

  • Publication number: 20080041253
Abstract: A spacer-printing apparatus includes a printing roller and a moving part. The printing roller has opposite edges connected by a curved surface and spacers are attached to the curved surface. The moving part is connected with the printing roller and respectively and alternately moves opposite edges up and down. The printing roller has a shape of a portion of cylinder, so that a radius is increased without the increase in volume and weight thereof.

  • Publication number: 20070263165
Abstract: An apparatus for printing bead spacers on a substrate of an LCD panel includes a head unit for spraying a plurality of bead spacer groups on the substrate, a transfer unit for transferring the head unit, and a supply unit for supplying the bead spacers to the head unit. Each of the bead spacer groups includes a plurality of bead spacers, and the sizes of the respective spacers of at least two of the spacer groups are different from each other. The invention enables a cell gap of a substantially uniform thickness to be created and maintained in the panel, prevents the occurrence of smear failures in the panel, and increases the allowable tolerance in the amount of liquid crystal material needed to fill the panel correctly.

  • Publication number: 20070153214
Abstract: A display panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a seal line and an outer spacer. The first substrate includes a display area on which a plurality of thin film transistors are formed, and a peripheral area surrounding the display area. The second substrate is opposite to the first substrate. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The seal line is formed between the first substrate and the second substrate in the peripheral area to confine the liquid crystal between the first and second substrates. The outer spacers are disposed in the peripheral area, and inwardly spaced apart from the seal line by a separation distance thereby preventing liquid crystal from being polluted by particles of an uncured seal line during manufacturing.
