  • Publication number: 20070091229
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an integrated-type polarizer comprising a polarizing film provided with a biaxial retardation film as a protective film on a first side thereof, the polarizing film having an absorption axis perpendicular to the optical axis of the biaxial retardation film. Also is provided a vertically aligned liquid crystal display comprising a liquid crystal cell filled with liquid crystal molecules of negative dielectric anisotropy between a first and a second polarizer, the respective absorption axes of which are perpendicular to each other, wherein the integrated-type polarizer acts as the first polarizer.

  • Publication number: 20070024792
Abstract: An IPS-LCD, in which the direction of an optical axis and retardation values are adjusted according to the disposition of a phase retardation film replacing one protective film, obtains a contrast ratio similar to that of an IPS-LCD having upper and lower protective films, and has a small thickness. The IPS-LCD includes first and second polarizing plates (1, 2), an IPS panel (3), and a first protective film. Absorption axes (4, 5) of the first and second polarizing plates (1, 2) are orthogonal to each other, and an optical axis of a liquid crystal in the IPS panel (3) and the absorption axis (4) are parallel with each other. A second phase retardation film, obtained by coating a biaxial film (17) with a uniaxial C film (11), is disposed between the second polarizing plate (2) and the IPS panel (3) and is used as a second protective film.

  • Publication number: 20060285051
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an IPS-LCD using two sheets of negative (?) biaxial retardation films and one +C-plate. The IPS-LCD has a superior contrast ratio at the surface-facing angle and tilt angles and undergoes a minimal color change with viewing angles in a black state, thereby providing a wider viewing angle.

  • Publication number: 20050248707
Abstract: Disclosed is an in-plane switching liquid crystal display. The in-plane switching liquid crystal display uses at least one A-plate and adjusts the optical axis direction and the retardation value of the A-plate, thereby improving the contrast characteristic at a front and at a predetermined inclination angle of the in-plane switching liquid crystal display while minimizing a color shift according to viewing angles in the black state.

  • Publication number: 20050200792
Abstract: The present invention relates to an in-plane switching liquid crystal display comprising a negative biaxial retardation film and a positive C-plate, as viewing-angle compensation films. By the use of such viewing-angle compensation films, the contrast characteristics at the front side and inclination angle of the in-plane switching liquid crystal display can be improved and color shift with viewing angle in the dark state can be minimized.

  • Publication number: 20050110933
Abstract: Disclosed is an in-plane switching liquid crystal display, which uses a positive biaxial retardation film while adjusting an optical axis direction and the retardation value of the positive biaxial retardation film. The in-plane switching liquid crystal display improves the contrast characteristic at a predetermined angular position as well as at a front position thereof, so a color shift according to the viewing angle in the black state is minimized.
