  • Patent number: 10449813
Abstract: A self-inflating tire assembly includes an air tube mounted within a tire sidewall or chafer groove. The air tube is in contacting engagement with opposite angled groove surfaces surrounding the air tube. A segment of the air tube is flattened from an expanded diameter to a flat diameter by bending and compression of the groove in a rolling tire footprint to force air evacuated from the flattened segment along a tube air passageway. A coverstrip overlays and seals the groove and provides an abrasion resistant surface on the exterior of the tire. The coverstrip is made from a vulcanizable rubber composition comprising from 50 to 80 phr of a polybutadiene, from 50 to 20 phr of natural rubber, and from 0.1 to 5 phr of a vulcanization modifier.

  • Patent number: 9701821
Abstract: The invention relates to a rubber composition and its preparation having a crosslink distribution, particularly at least two types of crosslinks, its preparation, and an article of manufacture, including a tire, having a component of such rubber composition. In one embodiment the crosslink distribution can be a controlled crosslink distribution of at least two types of crosslinks. In one embodiment, such crosslink distribution relates to an inclusion in the rubber composition of an additive to promote the crosslink distribution where the additive itself has a part of the desired crosslink characteristics. The distributed crosslinks can be of different types including different length, different chemistry, and connecting different points on the crosslinked rubber chains. The distributed crosslinks can be present in different concentrations in the rubber composition. The crosslink distribution can be random or in the nature of a gradient change between domains of different crosslinks.

  • Publication number: 20150065647
Abstract: There is disclosed a functionalized elastomer comprising the reaction product of (1) a living anionic elastomeric polymer comprising units derived from divinylbenzene and a monomer comprising isoprene; and (2) a polymerization terminator of formula Q-(CH2)XSi(OR1)YR23-Y, wherein Q is R3CH?N— or (R4)2N—; R3 represents a group consisting of an aryl or substituted aryl having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, or a heterocycle or heteroaryl having 3 to 18 carbon atoms; R4 independently represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R1 and R2 each independently represents a group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an allyl, and an aryl; X is an integer from 1 to 20; and Y is an integer from 1 to 3; wherein units derived from the terminator are exclusively disposed adjacent to units derived from the divinylbenzene. There is further disclosed a rubber composition comprising the functionalized elastomer, and a pneumatic tire comprising the rubber composition.

  • Publication number: 20150053324
Abstract: The present invention relates to pneumatic tires having a laminated innerliner with reinforced splice. The laminated innerliner is a pre-formed laminate comprised of an innerliner film which contains an RFL adhesive coating on both sides for which the innerliner film is cohesively bonded through the RFL adhesive to an uncured tire rubber carcass ply. The uncured splice is comprised of overlapping end portions of the uncured laminated innerliner cohesively bonded together through the RFL adhesive which provides building tack. The uncured splice is reinforced by a an uncured rubber strip cohesively bonded to the laminate by the building tack-providing RFL adhesive for which the strip abridges, the overlapping end portions of the splice, or is sandwiched between the overlapped end portions of the splice, to form a cohesively bonded composite. The assembly, or composite, thereof is cured to adhesively bond the splice and rubber strip together.
