  • Patent number: 6474070
Abstract: A gas turbine engine combustor includes outer and inner liners joined together at an annular dome. Outer and inner air swirlers and cooperating fuel injectors are mounted in two rows in the combustor dome. The fuel injectors are joined to a common fuel manifold for simultaneously channeling fuel thereto over an operating range from idle to full power for reducing exhaust emissions.

  • Patent number: 6212870
Abstract: Assembly of the combustor dome in a gas turbine engine is facilitated by providing a self-fixturing configuration. The combustor dome assembly is made up of a dome plate having a plurality of swirler assemblies mounted therein. Each swirler assembly is provided with a locating pin that extends between the dome plate and the swirler assembly for positioning the swirler assembly with respect to the dome plate without the use of fixturing tools. Preferably, the swirler assembly includes a swirl cup and an outlet sleeve mounted in the dome plate. The locating pin is pressed into a hole formed in the swirl cup. One end of the pin is received in a slot formed in the dome plate, and the other end of the pin is received in a slot formed in the outlet sleeve. Thus, the locating pin sets the circumferential orientation of the swirler assembly in relation to the dome plate.

  • Patent number: 5353865
Abstract: An improved heat transfer assembly includes a textured impingement surface and means for impinging cooling air directly upon the textured surface. A component includes a surface textured to increase convective heat transfer with minimal increase in resistance to conductive heat transfer through the component. The textured surface can comprise an array of closely spaced hemispherically shaped protuberances. A method is disclosed for texturing a surface with discrete laser welds.

  • Patent number: 5321951
Abstract: A carburetor for the combustor of a gas turbine engine wherein a swirler and a venturi cooperate to atomize and mix air and fuel for the combustor, wherein a downstream mounted integrally formed sleeve and splash plate is provided to control the flow of the air/fuel mixture into the combustor. The integral splash plate and sleeve has protuberances formed on its upstream surface to increase the area impinged by cooling air and thereby enhance cooling of the splash plate flange thereof.

  • Patent number: 5285635
Abstract: A double annular combustor having concentrically disposed inner and outer annular combustors is provided with inner and outer dome plates. Each dome plate has an inner portion and an outer portion. A cowl structure having an inner portion, an outer portion and a middle portion is also provided. The cowl outer portion is connected to the outer dome plate outer portion, the cowl inner portion is connected to the inner dome plate inner portion, and the cowl middle portion is connected to the outer dome plate inner portion and the inner dome plate outer portion. at an outer end, an inner end, and a middle portion. Additionally, the inner and outer annular combustors may lie in distinct radial planes, whereby the dome plate of the downstream annular combustor includes a section extending upstream to the cowl middle portion.
