  • Patent number: 4542899
Abstract: An exercise device is provided which is useful for a wide variety of exercises. The exercise device includes a frame and a plurality of weights stacked one above the other on the frame. A lift assembly is slidably mounted on the frame for vertical up and down movement along the height of the frame. The lift assembly includes a cage open at the top and bottom having a sufficient horizontal cross section so that the cage can be moved up and down around the outside of the stack of weights. A first elongated lifting arm extends horizontally along one side of the cage and is mounted to the cage for horizontal sliding movement along the side of the cage. A second elongated lifting arm extends horizontally along the opposite side of the cage and is mounted to the cage for horizontal sliding movement along the side of the cage. Means are on the frame for coupling a selected number of the weights to the lift assembly to thereby provide a resistance force to vertical upward movement of the lift assembly.
