    Abstract: A submerged membrane bio-reactor (MBR) is provided. The submerged MBR includes a submerged membrane module having a membrane with a hollow fiber structure, a cylindrical tube covering an outer circumference of the submerged membrane module, and a nozzle or a porous diffuser provided within a treatment vessel to supply air to inside of the cylindrical tube. Air bubbles generated from the nozzle or the porous diffuser flows into the cylindrical tube in a slug-type liquid flow that effectively decreases membrane contamination.
