    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for calculating an enhanced observed time difference from a mobile station and transmitting the enhanced observed time difference to a servicing mobile location center for a location-based service are provided. The apparatus comprises means for receiving a location-measuring request and assistance data from the servicing mobile location center; means for choosing a base transceiver station, the synchronization channel of which is to be measured, based on response time detected from the location-measuring request and a predetermined priority; and means for calculating an enhanced observed time difference for the chosen base transceiver station and transmitting a location-measuring response, including the calculation result, to the servicing mobile location center.

    Abstract: Provided are a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card and a method of recognizing the SIM card. A mobile communication terminal to which the SIM card applies has a card installation slot with predetermined connectors. A SIM card is detachably installed in the card installation slot, and includes a first contact pad cluster that has a plurality of contact pads to electrically contact the connectors when the SIM card is installed in a correct direction, and a second contact pad cluster on a same side of the SIM card as the first contact pad cluster, that has a plurality of contact pads to electrically contact the connectors when the SIM card is installed in a direction opposite to the correct direction. The first and the second contact pad Clusters have at least two shared contact pads. The mobile communication terminal has a switching device to switch the at least two shared contact pads, and a controller to read the SIM card connected to the connectors and to simultaneously control the switching device.

    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for sensing rotation angle of a folder in a portable terminal are provided. In the apparatus and method, a first motion sensor measures a roll, which is an up/down rotation angle of a main body and a pitch, which is a left/right rotation angle of the main body. A second motion sensor measures a roll, which is an up/down rotation angle of a folder and a pitch which is a left/right rotation angle of the folder. A controller measures up/down/left/right rotation status of the folder based on the main body using the difference between the rolls and pitches measured from the first motion sensor and the second motion sensor.
