Abstract: An optical disc apparatus and a method of performing a finalize operation thereof are capable of automatically performing the finalize operation without separate manipulation by setting an easy (EZ) recording mode in the optical disc apparatus such as a digital video disc (DVD) recorder. The method includes determining whether or not a key for opening a disc is input by instruction of a user, comparing a capacity of data that is recorded on the disc with a remaining capacity of data that is not recorded on the disc when the key for opening the disc is input, and determining whether or not to automatically perform the finalize operation.

Abstract: A combination system including a plurality of reproducing apparatuses, such as a digital versatile disk player (DVDP) and a video cassette recorder, and a method for controlling operation of the same. The combination unit includes a selecting unit for selecting a reproduced signal provided by one of the plurality of reproducing apparatuses that is switched to a play mode, a selection information storing unit for storing selection information identifying the reproducing apparatus that outputs the reproduced signal selected by the selecting unit, and a control unit for controlling the reproducing apparatus to switch to a pause mode or a stop mode when the selection information stored in the selection information storing unit changes from identifying the reproducing apparatus to identifying another reproducing apparatus of the plurality of reproducing apparatuses.

Abstract: Provided is an adaptive recording method by which recording can be performed adaptively according to the remaining space of a target medium and the amount of data to be recorded, in a combination system including two different playing/recording apparatuses, one of which is a source and the other of which is the target medium. The method includes a user designating a play section of the optical disc, calculating a play time of the designated play section, calculating a remaining time of the magnetic tape on which the play section is to be recorded, using a ratio between angular velocities of a driving shaft and a driven shaft, determining a recording speed using the calculated play time of the optical disc and the calculated remaining time of the magnetic tape, and recording the played video data of the optical disc on the magnetic tape according to the determined recording speed.

The combo system further includes a power supply part which supplies electric power supplied from an external source to the DVD part and the VCR part, a decision part which determines whether to cut off the electric power supplied to the power supply part, and a low-power supply part which charges low-consumption power necessary to operate the controller during a supplying of the electric power to the power supply part. Where the decision part determines that the electric power supplied to the power supply part is cut off, the low-power supply part supplies the low-consumption power to the controller.
