  • Publication number: 20080074893
Abstract: A lamp system is disclosed for providing high-ceiling lighting. The lamp system includes a lamp assembly coupled to a reel assembly via an electrical cord. The reel assembly includes a motor coupled to a reel to provide rotational movement of the reel. The reel assembly is operable to rotate the reel in a first direction so as to wind the electrical cord disposed between the lamp assembly and the reel assembly about the reel to raise the lamp assembly. The reel assembly is further operable to rotate the reel in a second direction so as to unwind the electrical cord from the reel to lower the lamp assembly.

  • Patent number: 6400104
Abstract: A compact lamp unit is described which functions both as a fluorescent lamp and as a nightlight. The lamp unit includes a housing, a fluorescent tube, a low power light source, a conductive base and first and second circuits. The housing is used to contain a number of components and to support the fluorescent tube and low power light source. The conductive base is attached to a neck portion of the housing and has contact terminals adapted for a three-way lamp socket. The first circuit is electrically connected between the fluorescent tube and two of the contact terminals to drive the fluorescent tube. The second circuit is electrically connected between the low power light source and two of the contact terminals to drive the low power light source.

  • Patent number: 6292147
Abstract: An apparatus is described for maintaining a GPS antenna element at a predetermined orientation. The apparatus includes a holder configured to support the GPS antenna element. The holder is pivotally coupled to a base structure and is configured to pivot with respect to a pivot axis. When the force of gravity is applied to the holder, it causes the GPS antenna element supported by the holder to be maintained at the predetermined orientation even when the base structure to which the holder is coupled changes its orientation. In one embodiment, an extra weight is provided on one side of the holder such that the force of gravity applied to the extra weight will cause the antenna element supported by the holder to be maintained at a predetermined angular orientation.

  • Patent number: 5897194
Abstract: An apparatus for remotely verifying the potency of a backup power source for an information display apparatus using an electrically-actuated switch coupled between a primary power source interface and the switch. In one embodiment, a signal receiving device receives a transmitted signal, activates a switch, interrupts the supply of power from a primary power source, and requires the sign to be lighted by the backup power supply. The apparatus may include a circuit to transform alternating current line voltage into a reduced direct current voltage for the lighting source; a backup power supply recharging circuit that is integrated so as to allow the backup power supply to be recharged using power from the primary source; a power failure detector switching circuit that allows the light source to receive power from the backup power supply if the power from the primary power source were interrupted; and a control circuit power source.
