  • Publication number: 20070236627
Abstract: A diffusion plate that is capable of improving a display quality, and a backlight assembly and a liquid crystal display (“LCD”) including the same are disclosed. The diffusion plate includes a base layer including of a first optically transparent resin and a first coating layer provided on a first surface of the base layer. The first coating layer includes a second optically transparent resin and random embossings. The first surface including the embossings has a 60° gloss of 15% or less. A method of forming a diffusion plate includes forming a base layer including a first optically transparent resin, providing random embossings on the base layer and sizing the diffusion plate to predetermined dimensions.

  • Publication number: 20070086191
Abstract: An optical member that lends itself to be more cost-effectively manufactured than a conventional optical member is presented. A display device made with the optical member can be thinner than the conventional optical member. The optical member includes a light-incident face that receives light emitted from a lamp positioned at a side of the optical member, a light-exiting face that is in a plane perpendicular to the light-incident face, and a light reflecting face opposite to the light-exiting face. A light-concentrating pattern having a plurality of concentric circles is formed on the light-exiting face. The light-concentrating pattern may be the Fresnel lens pattern. A diffusing pattern for diffusing the light is formed on the light reflecting face. Since patterns are formed on the optical member, additional optical sheet such as a prism sheet, a reflective polarizing sheet, a diffusion sheet, etc., is unnecessary.

  • Publication number: 20070047264
Abstract: A mold frame that does not yellow with exposure to ultraviolet radiation is presented. The mold frame includes a first portion, a second portion and a silicone layer. The first portion supports the optical member. The second portion extends from the first member and reflects a light generated from the lamp. The first silicone layer is coated on the second portion. With the silicone layer formed on the mold frame, yellowing is prevented and display quality is improved.

  • Publication number: 20060262666
Abstract: An optical plate includes a planar base and a plurality of rounded prisms formed on the planar base. The rounded prisms improve a uniformity of the light passing through the planar base and then irradiate the light having the improved uniformity. A concave peak formed in each of the plurality of rounded prisms of the optical plate scatters the light provided into a rear face of the optical plate so that dark lines and bright lines are not generated on the optical plate. As a result, the optical plate has improved light efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20060245061
Abstract: A light guide plate includes a first optical member having a first light path-changing portion to separate a first light portion and a second light portion from a light, and a second optical member having a second light path-changing portion corresponding to the first light path-changing portion. The first optical member has a first refractive index against the first light portion of the light and a second refractive index against the second light portion of the light, and the second optical member has the first refractive index against the first and second light portions. Thus, brightness and brightness uniformity of an image displayed on a display apparatus may be improved, and a number of parts of the display apparatus may be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060181867
Abstract: A light-diffusing member includes a first face, a second face arranged opposite to the first face, and a light-diffusing portion including at least one valley and at least one ridge that are alternatively arranged. A first thickness of the light-diffusing member between the ridge and the first face is about 1.15 to about 1.80 times greater than a second thickness of the light-diffusing member between the valley and the first face.

  • Publication number: 20060164568
Abstract: A light control plate includes a base part and a lenticular shaped first light dispersion part combined with at least one side of the base part to disperse light provided from an exterior of the light control part. Accordingly, a light control plate and a thin liquid crystal display including the light control plate is provided to assure uniform brightness.

  • Publication number: 20060133108
Abstract: In a backlight assembly and a display device including the backlight assembly, the backlight assembly includes a light dispersion member and a light source having a plurality of light source members, a distance defined between the light sources members adjacent to each other. The light dispersion member includes a lower face portion having alternately arranged ridges and grooves. Each light source is positioned under a respective ridge. An interval between a center of each light source and the respective ridge positioned directly over the light source is from about 0.2 to about 0.55 times the distance.
