  • Patent number: 7678314
Abstract: A prophylaxis cup formed of a silicone elastomer having perlite particles incorporated therein as an abrasive material. The silicone elastomer and perlite particles are processed in a 3-roll mill so that the perlite particles have a predetermined size and are uniformly dispersed throughout the prophylaxis cup. As the prophylaxis cup is used to clean and polish teeth, the prophylaxis cup disintegrates upon contact with the teeth releasing the perlite particles which act as a cleaning and polishing agent between the prophylaxis cup and the teeth.

  • Publication number: 20080081324
Abstract: A two-phase mixture is provided having a dissolved gas and a suspension of bubbles in a liquid. Methods for making, maintaining, and using the two-phase mixture are also provided. The gas molecules may be introduced into the liquid at a high velocity under elevated pressure to form a supersaturated solution that retains the dissolved gas concentration in solution when the solution is exposed to ambient conditions. The mixture may be used in a number of applications where high concentrations of gas must be retained in solution during prolonged exposure to ambient conditions. An example of use is the treatment of wounds to non-surgically remove dead, devitalized, contaminated and foreign matter from tissue cells. The mixture may be combined with a plastic to encapsulate the suspension of bubbles to minimize liberation of the gas bubbles from the mixture.

  • Patent number: 6987826
Abstract: A method for expanding the operating domain of a boiling water nuclear reactor that permits safe operation of the reactor at low core flows is described. The operating domain is characterized by a map of the reactor thermal power and core flow. In an exemplary embodiment, the method for expanding the operating domain of a boiling water nuclear reactor permits operation of the reactor between about 120 percent of rated thermal power and about 85 percent of rated core flow to about 100 percent of rated thermal power and about 55 percent of rated core flow. The method includes determining an elevated load line characteristic that improves reactor performance, performing safety evaluations at the elevated load line to determine compliance with safety design parameters, and performing operational evaluations at the elevated load line. The method also includes defining a set of operating conditions for the reactor in an upper operating domain characterized by the elevated load line.
