  • Publication number: 20100069533
Abstract: The present invention provides wood adhesive binder compositions comprising a naturally occurring protein component, e.g. soy flour, and an oxazoline-functional group containing polymer or resin component, the two components in a solids weight ratio of from 60:40 to 98:2. As formulated, the compositions may comprise from 40 to 98 wt. % of the naturally occurring protein component, preferably, 50 wt. % or more. Preferably, the wood adhesive binder further comprises lignins or lignosulfonate. Where the wood adhesive binder compositions comprise lignins or lignosulfonates, they remain more fluid and workable at a higher pH such as, for example, 4.5 or more. Any of the compositions may be formulated with one or more in situ acid generator compound to insure more rapid cure on heating or pressing. The binder enables the provision of mechanically sound, low cost and biodegradable composites, such as, medium density fiberboard (MDF).

Abstract: An assembly includes a holder having a first arm and a second arm, the holder being movable between a first configuration and a second configuration. The assembly further includes an actuator movable in relation to the holder between a first position and a second position. Movement of the actuator from the first position to the second position causes movement of the holder from the first configuration to the second configuration. The first arm has a first bone plate contact portion, and the second arm has a second bone plate contact portion. The first bone plate contact portion and the second bone plate contact portion are separated by a first distance when the holder is in the first configuration. The first bone plate contact portion and the second bone plate contact portion are separated by a second distance when the holder is in the second configuration. • Publication number: 20060084906
Abstract: A flow management system comprising a first panel having a fluid pathway and a second panel having a fluid pathway for passing a second fluid. The fluid pathway of the first panel passes a first fluid. The first panel includes a first compartment to receive a volume of the first fluid. The second panel includes a second compartment to receive a volume of the second fluid. The first and second panels are aligned so that the first compartment overlays the second compartment. The flow management system may be placed within a gap defined by a first surface and a second surface. The first and second compartments are disposed within the gap so that the second compartment bears against the second surface as the second fluid fills the second compartment and forces the first fluid out from the first compartment as the first compartment bears against the first surface.

  • Patent number: 5534310
Abstract: A latex binder suitable for producing high gloss coating on weathered substrates and a method for producing such coatings. The binder includes a low molecular weight and low acid number latex polymer having an acid functional and an enamine functional moiety that results from the reaction of ammonia or amine with an acetoacetyl functional pendant moiety on the latex polymer. A film containing the latex binder is applied on a substrate and then exposed to ambient light and air to produce a high gloss highly adherent film on difficult to adhere surfaces, such as weathered chalky substrates.

  • Patent number: 5385960
Abstract: Coatings compositions including stable composite latex-pigment particles are prepared by dispersing titanium dioxide pigment particles in a first aqueous medium and preparing a dispersion of selected polymeric latex particles, which have at least one dihydrogen phosphate functional group, in a second aqueous medium. The media are mixed and the selected polymeric latex particles adsorb on the titanium dioxide particles. Dibasic phosphate is then provided to the mixture to stop adsorption and stabilize the composite particles. The coating composition gives a coating with improved hiding.
