  • Publication number: 20040157758
Abstract: A method of protecting and maintaining a surface of a siliceous material includes restoring damaged portions of the surface of the siliceous material, cleaning the surface of the siliceous material, applying a reactive chemical solution to the surface of the siliceous material to cause a linking between carbon atoms in said reactive chemical solution to oxygen atoms in the siliceous material near the surface, thereby forming a continuous carbon chain to produce a hydrophobic surface having reduced surface tension, applying a protective coating to the hydrophobic surface to infill porosity of the hydrophobic surface to preclude contamination and to further decrease surface tension, and periodically cleaning the surface and re-applying said protective coating to maintain the surface.
