  • Patent number: 6180718
Abstract: A process for the attachment of aromatic or heteroaromatic rings to a polymeric support via a silyl ether linkage is described. Such process involves the synthesis of a chlorodialkyl aryl or heteroarylsilane which is then coupled to a polymeric support via a hydroxyl functionality to form a polymer-bound silyl ether. Further modification provides a polymer-bound small organic molecule that is cleaved from the polymeric support under mild conditions to give an aryl or heteroaryl silanol or a compound in which the aryl or heteroaryl carbon-silicon bond is replaced with a carbon-hydrogen, carbon-halogen, carbon-hydroxyl, carbon-sulfur, or carbon—carbon bond. Such methods are useful for the preparation of a library of diverse aromatic and heteroaromatic compounds by both manual and automated synthesis.

  • Patent number: 5989115
Abstract: A sharpening guide assembly for use in sharpening ski and snowboard edges includes an angle member and at least one riser member. The angle member includes at least a first outer surface and a second outer surface, an inner edge of the first outer surface adjoining an upper edge of the second outer surface. The riser member is positioned on the first outer surface of the angle member such that a top portion of the riser member extends above the first surface of the angle member. The angle member is formed of a first material and the riser member is formed of a second material, wherein the second material has a hardness which is greater than a hardness of the first material. During a sharpening operation, a sharpening tool is supported on the riser member such that the sharpening tool such as a file member is positioned above the first outer surface of the angle member so as to avoid potential wear causing contact therewith.

  • Patent number: 5760938
Abstract: A device and methods to measure the wheel alignment, to measure the position and orientation of the wheels in relation to the chassis, to measure the chassis and body and to measure parameters of vehicles for problem diagnosis. A beam of colliminated light is directed along a latitudinal reference line. The angle and distance relationship of the wheels to this line are measured. A light beam perpendicular to the latitudinal reference light beam is directed longitudinal to the vehicle. The latitudinal light beam and the longitudinal light beams form a rectangular grid system from which the position of vehicle chassis parts can be measured. A method to calculate and compensate for the errors in the measurement system is used with gravity sensors to more accurately calculate toe, camber and tilt. These angular relations provide toe relative the chassis, camber, caster, s.a.i. and included angle. Also, offset and setback of the front and rear wheels relative to the chassis are provided.

  • Patent number: 5708311
Abstract: An integrated electric motor-driven in-line hydraulic pump that includes a housing with an internal shaft, and a cylinder block mounted for rotation on the shaft. The rotor of an electric motor has an internally affixed bearing sleeve that is rotatably supported with respect to the shaft surrounding the cylinder block within the housing. Teeth on the sleeve engage splines on the cylinder block for rotatably coupling the rotor to the cylinder block. The stator of the electric motor is affixed within the housing surrounding the rotor. Pistons are operatively coupled to the cylinder block and engage a yoke plate for obtaining positive displacement pumping action upon energization of the motor. Fluid inlet and outlet ports feed hydraulic fluid through the housing to the cylinder block and pistons, and from the cylinder block to the outlet port.

  • Patent number: 5702953
Abstract: A device for particle agglutination analysis and a method for its use. The device includes means forming a longitudinally extending channel, an opening communicating from the exterior of the device to a first end of the channel, a reservoir communicating with the second end of the channel, and a vent opening communicating from the reservoir to the exterior of the apparatus. The channel has a sufficiently large cross section and the vent is positioned such that, when the channel is in a vertical position, a given amount of fluid, introduced through the opening into the channel will flow by gravity through the channel and into the reservoir, filling the channel to a desired height and the reservoir to the same height without flowing through the vent, while air escapes through the vent. Gravity causes sufficient movement of the particles so that agglutination may occur.
