  • Publication number: 20140033997
Abstract: An internal-combustion engine with two intake valves for each cylinder is provided with a system for variable actuation of the intake valves, including a single solenoid valve for each cylinder that controls communication of a pressurized-fluid chamber of the system with an exhaust channel. The solenoid valve is a three-way, three-position solenoid valve, including an inlet permanently communicating with the pressurized-fluid chamber and with the hydraulic actuator of an intake valve, and two outlets communicating, respectively, with the actuator of the other intake valve and with the exhaust channel. The solenoid valve has a first position, in which the inlet communicates with both of the outlets, a second position, in which the inlet communicates only with the aforementioned outlet connected to the actuator of an intake valve and does not communicate, instead, with the outlet connected to the exhaust channel, and a third position, in which the inlet does not communicate with any of the two outlets.

  • Publication number: 20130199296
Abstract: A method for monitoring the quality of an industrial working process, which includes identifying defects of the working process, comprises acquiring at least one signal having multiple frequency components from the industrial working process, decomposing the at least one signal having multiple frequency components in signals having single frequency components, calculating the information content for each signal having a single frequency component, analyzing the information content for each signal having a single frequency component, and if the value of the information content of the signal at the lowest single frequency component does not represent a main percentage of the information content of the whole acquired signal, the acquired signal having multiple frequency components is evaluated as indicative of a working process with defects and a defect analysis step is performed on the signal having multiple frequency components.

  • Publication number: 20130190998
Abstract: An automotive electronic control system for a motor vehicle is provided. The automotive electronic control system is designed to cause the motor vehicle to enter a freewheel running condition with internal combustion engine off if the automotive electronic control system determines, based on received quantities indicative of operative conditions of the motor vehicle, occurrence of a driver-performable action indicative of the will of the driver to enter a freewheel running condition with internal combustion engine off and occurrence at or within a given time from the occurrence of the driver-performable action and the maintaining for a given time of specific predetermined entry conditions. The automotive electronic control system is further designed to cause the motor vehicle to leave a freewheel running condition with internal combustion engine off if the automotive electronic control system determines, based on the received quantities, occurrence of at least one of specific predetermined exit conditions.

  • Publication number: 20130144504
Abstract: Automotive electrical system comprising an electronically-controllable alternator, a solar panel, and an electronic control unit configured to control electrical power generation in the automotive electrical system by determining whether to individually or jointly exploit electrical power supplied by the solar panel and the alternator; if it is determined to exploit electrical power supplied by the solar panel only, controlling the alternator to cause it to bring the automotive electrical system to operate in an operating point where the solar panel supplies the maximum deliverable electrical power; and if it is determined to exploit electrical power jointly supplied by the solar panel and the alternator, controlling the alternator to cause it to bring the automotive electrical system to operate in an operating point where the solar panel and the alternator jointly supply an overall electrical power that depends on fuel consumption.

  • Publication number: 20130104831
Abstract: An intake assembly for an internal-combustion engine includes an intake duct for each cylinder, which communicates with an airbox that includes a filtering element. Each intake duct communicates with the airbox by a respective throttle body. A monitoring channel connects the intake ducts together and is configured for perturbing in a negligible way the dynamics of the fluid inside the intake ducts. Associated to said monitoring duct are sensors for monitoring the pressure inside the monitoring duct and designed to send signals indicating the value of pressure of the fluid taken in by the engine to an electronic control unit.

  • Publication number: 20130091984
Abstract: A transmission includes a first primary shaft carrying driving gearwheels for odd gears and reverse, a coaxial second primary shaft carrying driving gearwheels for the even gears, and a secondary shaft carrying idle driven gearwheels meshing with the driving gearwheels. The gearbox has a gear shift device having sliding engagement sleeves each arranged to connect a driven gearwheel corresponding to a given gear for rotation with a secondary shaft. Corresponding sliding shift forks cause an engagement sleeve to slide between a neutral and shift positions. A rotary drum has grooves on its cylindrical surface in which a stud slides, and is connected for translation with a respective shift fork in its sliding direction. An actuation unit rotates the drum stepwise among angular positions corresponding to engagement sleeves' predetermined positions. In a first angular position the engagement sleeves simultaneously engage gear reverse.
