  • Patent number: 6704423
Abstract: A hearing aid assembly having a directional microphone mounted externally to a hearing aid body is disclosed. The hearing aid, which may be, for example, an in-the-canal (ITC) or completely-in-the-canal (CIC) hearing aid, has a mounting arm attached to an external surface of the hearing aid body, and the mounting arm in turn has a directional microphone mounted therewith. The mounting arm provides mechanical and electrical connection between the directional microphone and the hearing aid. The mounting arm is also configured such that, upon insertion of the ITC or CIC hearing aid into the ear canal of a wearer, the microphone is located in the region above the tragion portion of the ear.

  • Patent number: 5493079
Abstract: A vocal communication snorkel includes a hollow body having a breather tube, adapted to extend above the water, coupled thereto and a mouthpiece adapted to be held by the lips of a snorkeler. The body has a pair of inwardly curved, spherically shaped diaphragms of thin plastic material that are tuned to resonance within the frequency band of 1500 to 3000 Hertz in water. The mouthpiece includes a passageway that is coupled to the body and a pair of flexible lips, that are closable by the lips of the snorkeler for articulating plosive sounds. A readily collapsible bubble, formed in the passageway and engageable by the lower lip of the snorkeler, facilitates closure of the passageway under pressure from the snorkeler's lower lip.

  • Patent number: 5363452
Abstract: A microphone for use in a harsh environment of intense vibration and sound pressure. A microphone transducer and an acceleration transducer are located adjacent each other inside of a housing. The microphone transducer substantially blocks much of the acoustic signal from reaching the acceleration transducer. Accordingly, the acceleration transducer provides a signal substantially related only to the movement of the microphone, while the microphone transducer provides a signal related to both the movement of the microphone and the acoustic signal applied to it. The acceleration signal may then be removed from the microphone signal, providing a electrical signal substantially representative only of the acoustic signal.

  • Patent number: 4514836
Abstract: An improved brush contact for a phonograph tone arm dynamic stabilizer. The contact includes bristles on a base, with free ends fanned in an arc. A portion of the bristles contact a record surface. Lateral movement of the tone arm across the record pivots the bristles and base, bringing new bristles into contact with the record surface.

  • Patent number: 4194590
Abstract: A loudspeaker horn, which is divided into three segments, is provided with a valve for projecting sound either through the central segment or through all of the segments, said valve being adjustable from the front of the loudspeaker by a knob which has markings thereon to indicate the position of the valve and which is provided with means for retaining it in the position set by the knob.

  • Patent number: 3989905
Abstract: The disclosure describes improved apparatus for adjusting a unidirectional microphone in order to reduce the electrical output due to mechanical shocks applied to the microphone casing. The microphone includes a diaphragm supported by a housing which is resiliently mounted on the casing. The adjustment apparatus includes a mounting diaphragm positioned between the outer casing and the housing, and an enclosed chamber provided with an air leak which can alter the compliance and resistance of the mounting diaphragm in a controlled manner. A method of balancing the size or value of the elements of the microphone to provide pneumatic shock cancellation is also described.
