  • Patent number: 12230992
Abstract: An on-board battery charger (OBC) includes first and second rails which generate first and second detection signals based on voltage events, such as zero-crossing or peak voltage events, of input voltages supplied to the rail circuits. The OBC includes a relay switchable between (i) an opened state in which the relay disconnects the rails whereby the rails can respectively receive first and second phase input voltages from a multi-phase mains supply and (ii) a closed state in which the relay connects the rails whereby the rails can both receive a same input voltage from a single-phase mains supply. A controller determines from a comparison of the detection signals at the same time whether input voltages received by the rails from a mains supply are out-of-phase or in-phase to determine therefrom whether the mains supply is multi-phase or single-phase and/or whether the relay is properly or improperly opened or closed.

  • Publication number: 20250023448
Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a system is provided. The system includes a first bridge circuit, at least one transformer, a second bridge circuit, and at least one controller. The first bridge circuit includes a first plurality of switches that receives a first voltage and provides a second voltage. The transformer provides a third voltage based on the second voltage. The second bridge circuit includes a second plurality of switches that provides a fourth voltage. The controller is programmed to selectively activate at least one of the first plurality of switches and at least one of the second plurality of switches based on a predetermined modulation scheme, wherein the predetermined modulation scheme. The predetermined modulation scheme is based on at least a number of turns of the transformer, the predetermined modulation scheme minimizing a delay in selectively activating the first plurality of switches and the second plurality of switches.

  • Publication number: 20240246497
Abstract: A system includes a power source, a capacitor, a precharge circuit, and/or a controller, in some configurations. The capacitor may be electrically connected to the power source. The precharge circuit may be electrically connected between the power source and the capacitor. The precharge circuit may include a switch connected in parallel with a resistor. The controller may be electrically connected to the power source and the precharge circuit. The controller may conduct a first precharging of the capacitor to a first voltage via the resistor. The controller may conduct a second precharging of the capacitor from the first voltage to a second voltage via the switch.

  • Publication number: 20240213882
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a converter including a primary stage having a plurality of primary stage switches, a secondary stage having a plurality of secondary stage switches and a capacitor, and a controller that isolates the secondary stage from a second battery, and that controls switching of the plurality of primary stage switches and the plurality of secondary stage switches to provide a plurality of bursts of energy from a first battery to the capacitor to pre-charge the capacitor to a threshold voltage, wherein after an initial burst of the plurality of bursts having an initial duration, a subsequent burst of the plurality of bursts provided has a duration equal to a duration of a preceding burst plus a time period based on a voltage of the first battery.

  • Publication number: 20220176838
Abstract: An on-board battery charger (OBC) of an electric vehicle (EV) receives AC electrical power from a charge station and outputs a DC output current for charging a traction battery of the EV. In response to transients in the AC electrical power while the OBC is receiving the AC electrical power from the charge station and outputting the DC output current, a controller controls the OBC to (i) stop processing the AC electrical power from the charge station and reduce the DC output current and (ii) after the transients have passed, resume processing the AC electrical power from the charge station and increase the DC output current. For instance, at a zero-crossing event of the AC electrical power after the transients have passed, the OBC is controlled to resume processing the AC electrical power from the charge station and increase the DC output current.
