  • Publication number: 20080061993
Abstract: Method and apparatus to provide a wireless tether system is described. In one embodiment, one or more wireless tether apparatuses are in wireless communication with one or more base units. A wireless tether apparatus may be configured such that when separated from a base unit greater than a predetermined distance, such a wireless tether apparatus provides information to the user of the wireless tether apparatus to aid a user such as a human, animal, or machine in finding their way back to a desired location. A predetermined distance may be configured to change over time to accommodate different tether distance requirements at different times, e.g., closer to a home location at night and further away from the home location during the day. In one aspect, wireless tether apparatuses and base units communicate using a plurality of different communication modes such that when one mode fails other modes are utilized to reestablish a connection therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20060123807
Abstract: A method and system to monitor and determine energy consumption and energy efficiency of devices that use electrical and/or gas power is described. In one embodiment, a power monitoring system is configured to monitor electrical and/or gas power consumption of devices such as refrigerators, air-conditioners, washers, dryers, hot tubs, etc. Power consumption of the device is processed by the power monitoring system to determine the amount of power the device is consuming and the device's energy efficiency. In one embodiment, the power monitoring system transmits data associated with the device's power consumption, such as power efficiency, power cost, power usage, etc., to the device user and/or to a power supplier such as a utility company supplying the gas and/or electricity to the device. In one configuration, when the power efficiency of the device exceeds a predefined threshold, the user and/or power supplier is notified.

  • Publication number: 20050163047
Abstract: A method and apparatus to monitor quality of service (QoS) of wireless mobile devices is described. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method to monitor QoS performance of one or more services provided to a mobile user. The method includes comparing the performance of at least one service provided to the mobile user against at least one QoS threshold value. In one aspect, the present invention detects and determines responses to services having performance levels that cross at least one associated QoS threshold value. In one aspect, QoS thresholds may be associated with QoS between a mobile device and network. In another aspect, QoS thresholds may be associated with the performance level of mobile device operation services such as hardware and software operations. In one embodiment, when a performance level of a service associated with a mobile device crosses at least one QoS threshold, the affected mobile device process data associated with such service performance.
