  • Publication number: 20120223174
Abstract: A cartridge for managing an ear bud cable includes a housing having an input jack that is electronically connectable to an audio-source and a hub electrically connected with the input jack. A spool rotatably mounts on, and is electrically connected with, the hub. A power gear mounts in the housing and in contact with the spool for rotating the spool. The power gear defines a recessed interior. An ear bud cable wraps at least partially around the spool. A power gear spring mounts within the recessed interior of the power gear to minimize the size and, particularly, the thickness of the cartridge. In an alternate embodiment, the spool includes a recessed portion and a spool power spring mounts within the recessed portion of the hub. In yet another embodiment, the spool and the power gear both have recessed portions that hold a power spring.

  • Publication number: 20120224739
Abstract: A cartridge usable with a portable electronic device for managing an ear bud cable comprises a housing having a hub, a spool and stationary audio contacts fixed with respect to a hub axis. The stationary audio contacts are annular in shape and insulated from each other and from the housing. The stationary audio contacts are spaced equally from each other, and are each placed at fixed distance from the hub axis. The annular stationary audio contacts connect electrically with an auxiliary audio jack and a contact pad for simultaneously connecting the device to more than one audio device. Conductive contacts are placed on a bottom side of the spool, and are spring loaded to maintain continuous electrical contact with the stationary audio contacts.

  • Patent number: 8240403
Abstract: A rock bit is formed with pockets for enhanced cutting element retention and support of cutting elements during operation of the rock bit. Portions of the pockets are carburized to increase a yield strength of the pockets, which also increases the retention of the cutting elements. The pockets are formed at a diameter that is slightly smaller than an outer diameter of the cutting elements. Portions of the pockets are then carburized. The pockets are heated until the diameter of the pockets is equal to the outer diameter of the cutting elements. After the rock bit has been cooled and cleaned, a material is placed in each pocket prior to installing the cutting elements. The material homogenizes support for the cutting elements during operation of the rock bit.

  • Patent number: 8164980
Abstract: A drill string component includes a box-end and a pin-end. Each end includes a signal transceiver, which are operably coupled together. Each signal transceiver communicates with another signal transceiver in another component to form a communication network in the drillstring. An end-cap may be placed in the central bore of the pin-end of a component to form an annular chamber between a side of the end-cap and a wall of the central bore of the pin-end when the end-cap is disposed in the central bore. In some embodiments, an electronics module may be placed in the annular chamber and configured to communicate with one of the signal transceivers. Accelerometer data, as well as other sensor data, at various locations along the drillstring may be sampled by the electronics module and communicated to a remote computer. Drillstring motion dynamics, such as vibration, may be determined based on the accelerometer data.

  • Publication number: 20120092632
Abstract: Methods, devices, systems, and materials are disclosed for diffraction unlimited photofabrication. A method is provided where a photoresponsive material is illuminated with a first optical pattern at a first wavelength of light. The first wavelength of light alters a solubility of the photoresponsive organic material. The photoresponsive material is also illuminated with a second optical pattern at a second wavelength of light. The second wavelength of light hinders the ability of the first wavelength of light to alter the solubility of the photoresponsive organic material where the second optical pattern overlaps the first optical pattern. The photoresponsive organic material is then developed.
