  • Publication number: 20140092234
Abstract: A data acquisition system for determining the state of a tubular while the tubular rotates about its cylindrical axis. The tubular remains otherwise substantially stationary. Sensors travel up and down the length of the rotating tubular, interrogating the inside and outside of the tubular for data regarding the tubular's state. Sensors may take samples which may be associated with rotational reference information tying the sample to its absolute position on the internal or external surface of the tubular. A data processor processes the samples and other sensor data to produce a wide array of output, including data signatures of the tubular, maps of contour data regarding the internal or external surface of the tubular, and dimensional data regarding the tubular. Data acquisition is advantageously done in real time, and may further be done concurrently with internal or external cleaning operations.

  • Publication number: 20140094092
Abstract: Enhanced methods are disclosed for performing operations such as cleaning, inspection or data acquisition on an external surface of a hollow cylindrical tubular. Preferred embodiments include providing a fluid dispenser and an abrasion assembly on a buggy that travels up and down the length of the tubular as the tubular rotates. The fluid dispenser includes nozzles that dispense cleaning fluids onto the tubular's external surface. The abrasion assembly includes a swivel brush and a brush train providing different styles of abrasion cleaning of the tubular's external surface. Preferred embodiments of the buggy also carry a range finding laser and an optical camera generating samples that may be processed in real time into data regarding the surface contours and the diameter variations on the tubular's external surface. Cleaning and inspection variables such as tubular rotational speed, or buggy speed, may be adjusted responsive to measured surface contour data.

  • Publication number: 20140093347
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for handling cylindrical tubulars in a process that, in preferred embodiments, also performs cleaning, inspection and other operations on the tubular. The tubular is held stationary while it is rotated. During rotation of the tubular, internal and external cleaning systems, and data acquisition systems, pass up and down the length of the rotating tubular. In preferred embodiments, a first tubular is loaded onto the handling machine, whereupon it is indexed and then rotated. Cleaning, inspection and other operations may be performed during rotation. Once operations are complete, the handling system ejects the first tubular while queuing up a second tubular to be loaded.

  • Publication number: 20140090665
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for performing operations such as cleaning, inspection or data acquisition on an internal surface of a hollow cylindrical tubular. Preferred embodiments include providing at least one reel on which a hollow articulated lance is spooled. Tools or sensors, for example, are installed on a distal end of each lance. Hoses, electrical conduits, conductors or other similar carrier hardware inside each hollow lance supply the tools or sensors as required. A stabbing mechanism causes the reel to spool and unspool the lance so that the tools or sensors reciprocate up and down the inside of the rotating tubular.

Abstract: A method and tooling for partial disassembly of a bypass turbofan engine wherein the longitudinal axis of the bypass turbofan engine remains generally horizontal during disassembly. The low pressure turbine module is removed with a low pressure turbine module horizontal removal tool. An extended bearing nut tool may be supported by a stabilization member and may remove a bearing nut. An extended high pressure turbine shaft stretching tool may stretch a high pressure turbine shaft to release a high pressure turbine shaft nut. An extended bearing pulling tool may be used to pull a bearing while the low pressure turbine shaft remains in place. A modified measurement bridge may be used to measure the position of certain components while the low pressure turbine shaft remains in place. • Publication number: 20140058840
Abstract: An interactive grid display presented on a communications device offers a frontline representative of an enterprise or other user at a work site access to information for addressing a client's request. Available information is sorted and selected via the interactive grid based on a number of primary categories that are identified along one dimension of the grid and a number of subcategories identified along another dimension of the grid. Information is presented in the interactive grid directly, for example, typically without requiring the user to conduct a search for the information. In response to a user selecting a point on the grid for the category and sub-category that best matches the information desired by the representative, based on grid intersection for appropriate primary and secondary categories, the device interface drills down to obtain more specific information for presentation to the user.

  • Publication number: 20130338445
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product are provided to automatically assess a plurality of fatigue mitigation strategies. In the context of a method, fatigue information is received for a subject and determination is made as to whether the subject is fatigued. In an instance in which the subject is fatigued, the method determines an estimated effectiveness of each of a plurality of fatigue mitigation strategies based upon fatigue information for the subject and one or more constraints and characteristics of a respective fatigue mitigation strategy. The determination of the estimated effectiveness of each of the plurality of fatigue mitigation strategies may also be based upon at least one of a time to become effective, a duration of the effectiveness and a side effect. The method also identifies at least one fatigue mitigation strategy to address fatigue of the subject.
