Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling movement of a bit of a drilling assembly during reaming of an already-drilled hole; the methods, in certain aspects, including determining a ream speed for downward movement of the bit in the hole, moving the bit downward in a hole at said ream speed, determining a time period for deceleration of the bit to the hole bottom, determining a value for a target drilling parameter for drilling beyond the bottom of the hole, decelerating the bit (linearly or non-linearly) for the time period, and achieving the value for the target drilling parameter when the bit reaches the bottom of the hole.

Abstract: This invention includes a method of integrating into a semiconductor specimen fabrication station a process diagnostic module that performs on the semiconductor specimen a processing operation that otherwise would not be performed by the processing components to thereby make the fabrication station more efficient and flexible to use. The process diagnostic module includes, for example, a specimen parameter measurement system or a specimen inspection system and is configured to mount on a front-opening interface mechanical standard (FIMS) load port and fits within the allowable spatial envelope. This invention further includes located external to the semiconductor specimen fabrication station a processor that receives and processes data acquired by the process diagnostic module during its operation.

Abstract: Techniques for providing eyewear with electrical components are disclosed. The electrical components can provide electrical technology to eyewear without having to substantially compromise aesthetic design principles of the eyewear. The electrical components can be partially or completely internal to eyewear. The electrical components can also be attached to the eyewear as an after-market enhancement. The electrical components can operate independently or together with other electrical components provided elsewhere.

Abstract: A hydration sensor or sensing element configured to measure the hydration level of a user is disclosed. The sensing element can include a water-permeable material positioned in between two water-impermeable material. The sensing element can be coupled to a bottle of fluid, or a carrier with a timer. The sensing element can be incorporated into a handheld device. The sensing element can be a disposable element, an element applicable for more than one-time use, or a re-usable element. The sensing element or sensor can be calibrated for a specific user or a group of users. One or more additional sensors that do not measure hydration level of the user can be coupled to a hydration sensing element to determine the amount of fluid consumption for the user in different conditions.

Abstract: A fluid filtration unit having two or more filter medium layers and/or zones, at least one of the layers/zones having a different particle retention capability disposed on each side of a non-filtering separator element. The filter medium are presently preferably positioned such that each succeedingly distal filter layer or zone from the separator has a decreased particle retention capability than each proceeding filter layer or zone. The filter medium layer most proximal to the separator element may be separated from the separator by a support material for supporting such filter medium element and preventing collapsing of the medium into any separator conduit. At least one of the medium elements is formed from a material which swells in size due to fluid absorption with the various zones and the separator being operatively connected by a new and innovative edge seal.

Abstract: One embodiment pertains to a pair of glasses with a camera. For example, the camera can be partially or fully embedded in the glasses. In another embodiment, the camera can be removably attached to the glasses, such as removably attached to a temple of the glasses. The glasses can also include one or more various other electrical components. These other electrical components can work separately or in conjunction with the camera.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a portable container for a user including a container housing and a speaker attached to a portion of the housing. The area in the interior of the container at least adjacent to the speaker includes a compressible material. The housing is configured to carry a consumable substance. In one embodiment, the container further includes a memory device that is configured to store information that is related to the substance, and/or that is specific to the user. The speaker can output a message based on the information under a predetermined condition. Further, the speaker has a first surface and a second surface, with one of the surfaces directing at the interior of the container housing. Then as the speaker vibrates to generate sound waves, at least a portion of the sound waves from that surface of the speaker are directed towards the interior of the container housing, which improves the quality of the sound waves generated by the speaker and received by the user.

Abstract: A tethering apparatus for a watercraft includes an elongated flexible line, a spool and a biasing member adapted to urge the spool to automatically uptake portions of the elongated flexible line. A locking device is attached to an end portion of the elongated flexible line to assist in tethering the watercraft to a mooring structure.

Abstract: Improved approaches for users of electronic devices to communicate with one another are disclosed. The electronic devices have audio and/or textual output capabilities. The improved approaches can enable users to communicate in different ways depending on device configuration, user preferences, prior history, etc. In one embodiment, the communication between users is achieved by short audio or textual messages.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method to manage the communication of a user are disclosed. In one embodiment, when a person tries to electronically convey a message to the user, the status of the user, the identity of the person, and the urgency of the message can be identified. The access priority of the person can be determined based on the person's identity. Then, the message can be managed using one or more rules and in view of the status of the user, the access priority of the person and the urgency of the message.

Abstract: A moisture sensor for skin is disclosed. With the moisture sensor, a user can determine that her skin is too dry, and can conveniently apply a skin-care product. In addition, in one embodiment, the sensor can assist in identifying different types of skin-care products to apply. As one example, a skin-care product is a type of lotion. As another example, a skin-care product is a type of shampoo.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling access to information based on content of the information and user identity. The apparatus includes a video display that displays the information to be viewable by one or more users. A user-recognition input device determines that an additional user is newly present in a given area having access to the display. A blocking device coupled to the user-recognition input device selectively blocks display of the information based on whether the additional user is newly present. In one embodiment, the user-recognition input device includes a video input device, and a feature recognition device operable to distinguish between two or more users based on one or more video features of the users. In another embodiment, the user-recognition input device includes an audio input device, and an audio feature recognition device operable to distinguish when an additional user arrives.

Abstract: One embodiment includes a healthcare base for the health of a user. The base includes an area to receive a bottle that carries a health-related substance for the user to take. The base includes a detector, an input mechanism, an output mechanism and a storage medium. The detector can electronically detect information from the bottle. The input mechanism can allow the user to input information into the base. The output device can allow the user to receive output from the base. The storage medium can electrically store a piece of information regarding the user. In addition to electronically detect information from the bottle, the base provides electronic assistance regarding taking the health-related substance. In another embodiment, the base includes a space to receive a sensor. The sensor can measure an attribute of the user with the health-realted substance affecting the results of the measurements.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and mechanism for regenerating the clock signal and recovering the data of a serial bit data stream. According to an embodiment, a circuit for recovering data from a serial bit stream may include a de-serializer configured for reclocking the serial bit stream using at least one reclocking signal, having a frequency with a phase, and de-serializing the serial bit stream into at least two bit streams. The circuit may further include a clock recovery loop filter having a second order filter coupled with the deserializer. The clock recovery loop filter may be configured for determining whether the de-serializer is reclocking the serial bit data stream at an optimum location and for generating at least one control signal to adjust the phase of the frequency of the at least one reclocking signal if the de-serializer is not reclocking the serial bit data stream at the optimum location.

One embodiment includes a personal and portable bottle for a user, with the bottle having a sensor and an electrical component that is for electrically storing a piece of information regarding the user. The bottle carries a substance, and the sensor is for measuring an attribute of the user. The substance can affect the attribute of the user. A number of other embodiments generally pertain to an intelligent bottle or use thereof.

Abstract: A removable magnetic data storage cartridges incorporates antiferromagnetically coupled (AFC) media and may be used with a data drive to push the capacity point of removable hard platter based magnetic storage to 35 GB for a single platter 2.5? form factor product. The removable magnetic data storage cartridges incorporating AFC media represents an equivalent increase in the areal density of removable magnetic data storage cartridges on the order of 13×.

Abstract: A lash adjustment system for a roller is provided which includes a cam plate surface and a frustoconically shaped roller in mechanical communication with the surface. Means for moving the roller relative to the surface are included to urge the roller inwardly with respect to the cam plate in order to reduce lash.

Abstract: A method of generating language model statistics for a new word added to a language model incorporating at least one class file containing contextually related words. The method can include the following steps: First, language model statistics can be computed based on references to at least one incorporated class file. Second, a new word can be substituted for each reference to a selected class file. Additionally, the language model statistics can be re-computed based on the new word having been substituted for the reference. Third, the re-computed language model statistics can be displayed in a user interface and modifications can be accepted to the re-computed language model statistics through the user interface. Fourth, the language model statistics can be further re-computed based on the modifications. In consequence, the language model statistics are re-computed for the new word without introducing contextual inaccuracies in the language model.

Abstract: A seating arrangement with improved seating comfort is disclosed. In one embodiment, the seating arrangement is for a transportation vehicle. The arrangement includes seats at least having two levels adjacent to single-level seats. The multi-level seats include at least a bottom row of seats and a top row of seats. In one embodiment, the bottom row seats are on a floor; and there is an imaginary horizontal plane that is parallel to the floor, and that at least a part of the top row seats and at least a part of the bottom row seats intersect. The single-level seats include at least two rows, with at least one seat in each row being adjacent to the aisle, to allow passengers to access the single-level seats. In another embodiment, a seating arrangement includes only multi-level seats. In yet another embodiment, a computer-implemented method is applicable to the seats, such as allowing the display of a visual representation of a top-row seat and a bottom-row seat.

Abstract: A system for detecting and eliminating subterranean animals is disclosed. The system includes an infrared detector device adapted to detect animals below the ground surface from above the ground surface. A lethal event device is operatively coupled to the infrared detector device. An animal below the ground surface passing the above ground infrared detector actuates the lethal event device to eliminate the animal below the ground surface. A method for detecting subterranean animals is disclosed, as well as a method for detecting and eliminating subterranean animals.
