  • Patent number: 7255701
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses for clamping and reclamping an orthopedic surgical cable used in conjunction with an orthopedic implant device, a bone, and/or bone implant or structure. A sequence for a method in accordance with various embodiments the invention includes providing a surgical cable clamp and an orthopedic surgical cable. Next, mounting a portion of the surgical cable to the surgical cable clamp. Next, applying a force to the portion of the surgical cable so that the surgical cable is restrained or secured relative to the surgical cable clamp with a first tension in the surgical cable. Then releasing the force on the extended portion of the surgical cable so that the surgical cable can be repositioned relative to the surgical cable clamp. Finally, applying another force to the extended portion of the surgical cable so that the surgical cable is again restrained or secured relative to the surgical cable clamp.

  • Patent number: 5049158
Abstract: A prosthetic acetabular cup assembly includes a single piece bearing component having an inner bearing surface for receiving a ball attached to a femoral prosthesis and an outer surface. The assembly also includes a shell component for attachment to an acetabulum to replace a natural hip socket includes an inner surface defining a cavity for receiving the bearing component therein. The inner surface of the shell component is formed to include an arcuate groove therein. A formed wire is situated in the arcuate groove of the shell component. The wire is configured so that a portion of the wire extends radially inwardly from the arcuate groove of the shell component to engage an arcuate groove formed in the bearing component to retain the bearing component inside the shell component.

  • Patent number: 4517969
Abstract: A prosthetic gauge which is used for evaluating the fit of a prosthetic device against a receiving bone or cartilage surface. The gauge includes a portion for gripping and a contact portion extending from the gripping portion. The surface of the contact portion is predeterminedly contoured to conform substantially to the shape of the receiving bone or cartilage surface to be evaluated. The contact surface is a frosted or translucent surface which transmits and diffuses light so that the specific bone or cartilage surface being observed through the gauge cannot be seen clearly until actual contact is made between the contact surface and the articular surface. This aids the surgeon in more accurately determining the apparent contact area, and hence in evaluating the potential fit of the prosthesis.
