Patent number: 7307958Abstract: Vocoding conversions are reduced by dynamically loading a software-defined vocoder into a handset. The software-defined vocoder may be selected based on the calling party's network type, wherein a notification of network type is transmitted to the called party's network during call setup. The software-defined vocoders may be stored in the network and downloaded into the handset; alternatively, the software-defined vocoders may be stored in the handset. Voice data is tunneled from the calling party's handset and the calling party's network, through any number of different networks, to the called party's network and called party's handset, without any vocoding conversions, except at the handsets.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2000Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: Cello PartnershipInventors: William C. Patent number: 6751207Abstract: A method for tunneling voice over the Internet Protocol (IP) in a cellular network. A Mobile Identification Number (MIN) of a non-IP-enabled handset is mapped to the IP address of a component of a cellular network in communication with that handset. Publication number: 20020087292Abstract: A computer-implemented modeling tool for wireless communications systems predicts signal strength by considering the effects of water on RF signals. The modeling tool creates a model of the RF signals' propagation between a transmitter and a receiver in the wireless communications system. The modeling tool then determines the effect of at least one body of water located between the transmitter and the receiver on the modeled RF signal's propagation. Thereafter, the modeling tool outputs a signal strength value for the modeled RF signal based on the determined effect from the body of water located between the transmitter and receiver.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2000Publication date: July 4, 2002Inventors: William C.Y. Patent number: 6174160Abstract: Method and apparatus to prevaporize and premix liquid and/or gaseous fuels with air in two stages at two different temperatures prior to combustion. The invention is directed to the entry of a finely atomized liquid fuel, such as No. 2 diesel, into an inlet end of an annular chamber. Air is mixed with finely atomized liquid fuel, preferably generated by a small flow number liquid fuel nozzle, in a first chamber of the annular chamber at a first (relatively high) temperature for a relatively long residence time. The air and liquid fuel is moved into a second chamber of the annular chamber where a secondary hotter air is injected into the annular chamber by a plurality of staggered high velocity jets to prevaporize and premix the combined fuel and air mixture at a second higher temperature, but for a shorter time. The intense prevaporization and premixing make the mixture suitable for entry into a combustor, but without the need to add water or steam to keep pollutant emissions low.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1999Date of Patent: January 16, 2001Assignee: University of WashingtonInventors: John C.
