  • Patent number: 9572197
Abstract: A method of operating a wireless transmission system having antenna elements that are driven by corresponding antenna ports is disclosed. The method includes, in a base system, transmitting a first antenna port configuration for receipt by a remote radio head. The method also includes, in the remote radio head, allocating first communication signals among the antenna ports based on the first antenna port configuration, and transmitting the first communication signals to the antenna ports for wireless transfer to user devices. The method also includes, in the base system, identifying active sets that indicate active pilot signals for the user devices, processing the active sets to identify a second antenna port configuration, and transmitting the second antenna port configuration for receipt by the remote radio head. The method also includes, in the remote radio head, allocating second communication signals among the antenna ports based on the second antenna port configuration.

  • Patent number: 9060255
Abstract: A communication system for providing access to an information service includes a communication interface and a processor. The communication interface is configured to receive a request for an information session between a communication device and a virtual destination identified in the request. The virtual destination is associated with service destinations that provide the information service. The processor is configured to select one destination from the service destinations based on a type of the information session. The service destinations include a voice platform and a text message platform and the type of the information session is a voice session or a text message session. The processor is also configured to initiate the information session between the communication device and the one destination.

  • Patent number: 9036503
Abstract: A wireless control system for managing traffic in a multi-band wireless network is disclosed. The wireless control system configured to receive measurements that indicate channel performance information and round trip delay information for wireless communication devices operating within a first frequency band of the multi-band wireless network, process the channel performance information and the round trip delay information to determine a probability of successful frequency transfer, identify a subset of the wireless communication devices with probabilities of successful transfer that exceed a transfer threshold, and remove from the subset wireless communication devices whose velocity exceeds a movement threshold.

  • Patent number: 8981901
Abstract: Disclosed is a method, system, and device for secret fingerprint scanning and reporting. When a portable communication device has been lost or stolen, an entity may transmit a fingerprint scan-report trigger message to the device. In response to receipt of the fingerprint scan-report trigger message, the device then automatically invokes an integrated fingerprint scanner to scan a fingerprint of a user of the device and to report the resulting fingerprint data to a remote destination. Optimally, the scanning and reporting are done without notification to a user of the device. The method, system, and device may thereby help to identify the user of the device and to potentially recover the device.

  • Patent number: 8893053
Abstract: A method to help restrict operation of a mobile device in a situation where a user of the device may be distracted, such as when the user is driving a motor vehicle. The device presents the user with a test and reveals the solution to the test, and the user must then enter into the device the revealed solution within a predefined period of time. If the user enters the revealed solution within the predefined period of time, then a fair assumption is that the user is not distracted. On the other hand, if the user does not enter the revealed solution within the predefined period of time, then a fair assumption is that the user is distracted (e.g., is driving), in which case the device will responsively change an operational characteristic of the device so as to restrict the user's interaction with and operation of the device.

  • Patent number: 8593982
Abstract: A method and system to generate a communication system performance indicator log mask is disclosed. The method includes receiving, by a processing unit, a request for a performance indicator log mask associated with a performance indicator of a communication system, retrieving, by the processing unit, a plurality of log mask values associated with the performance indicator from a storage unit, and combining, by the processing unit, the plurality of log mask values to generate the performance indicator log mask.

  • Patent number: 8422645
Abstract: A method of managing a voicemail network is described herein. Voicemail system data for the voicemail network is received. The voicemail system data includes communication node data, source voicemail node data, and destination voicemail node data. A destination voicemail node is determined based on the destination voicemail node data and a destination voicemail node criteria. When the source voicemail node data meets a source voicemail node criteria, a communication node is associated with the destination voicemail node.

  • Patent number: 8417268
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for disabling text-entry capabilities. In one embodiment, a mobile station detects that it is being supported by a given single hand of a user and not by two hands of the user. The mobile station also detects that it is being operated by the single given hand of the user and not by two hands of the user. Optionally, the mobile station also determines that it is moving at greater than a threshold rate or detects more than a threshold degradation in text-entry proficiency. In response to detecting at least that the mobile station is being supported and operated by the single given hand of the user and not by two hands of the user, the mobile station disables one or more text-entry capabilities.

  • Patent number: 8265619
Abstract: A communication system for automating test calls in a wireless communication network comprises a test call automation system and at least one wireless communication device. The test call automation system is configured to receive a set of test conditions and test instructions associated with a test call scenario, and transfer the test conditions and the test instructions to the wireless communication device. The wireless communication device is configured to monitor a device state of the wireless communication device based on the test conditions, and if the device state complies with the set of test conditions, then process the test instructions to execute the test call scenario, receive test results associated with the test call scenario, and transfer the test results to the test call automation system.

  • Patent number: 8254330
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for expediting call setup in a wireless communication system. A mobile station operating in idle mode and under coverage of a first and second wireless coverage area receives overhead channel data for the first coverage area. The mobile station then detects a trigger to initiate connectivity with the wireless communication system. Responsive to detecting this trigger, the mobile station determines an amount of time until it will receive overhead channel data for the second coverage area and makes a determination of whether this determined amount of time is greater than a threshold. If the determined amount of time is greater than a threshold, the mobile station seeks connectivity via the first coverage area. However, if the determined amount of time is less than a threshold, the mobile station seeks connectivity via the second coverage area.

  • Patent number: 8160501
Abstract: What is disclosed is a test device for a wireless repeater system in a wireless communication network. The test device includes a transmitter configured to establish a call with the wireless communication network through the wireless repeater system and determine a number of probes required to establish the call. The test device also includes a receiver configured to receive the call from the wireless communication network through the wireless repeater system and determine a signal strength of the received call. The test device also includes a control processor configured to process the number of probes required to establish the call and the signal strength of the received call to determine a gain level for the wireless repeater system. The test device also includes a control interface configured to transfer the gain level to the wireless repeater system.
