  • Patent number: 5335718
Abstract: A space-efficient heating and air conditioning module for a motor vehicle includes radially inwardly directed air handling ducts and a coaxial rotary blower, evaporator, and heater core. A defrost supply duct communicates heated or conditioned air above the evaporator and heater core in a direction 180.degree. from the direction of air flow through the rotary blower, evaporator, and heater core. The air flow is automatically thermally stratified, to provide the warmest air to the floor vent. The module is compact, and is centrally mountable for use in left- or right-hand drive vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5105730
Abstract: An air distribution apparatus for an automotive vehicle, comprising a chamber for receiving air conditioned by at least one heat exchanger, the chamber includes an inlet opening and a plurality of discharge openings and mechanism downstream of the inlet opening for selecting at least one of the discharge openings. The mechanism for selecting comprises a pair of rollers, a flexible material disposed between the rollers and having at least one cutout area; and a mechanism for bidirectional driving of the rollers for positioning the flexible material such that the cutout area is either positioned for allowing air flow through at least one of the discharge openings or for preventing air flow through any of the discharge openings.

  • Patent number: 4858676
Abstract: An airconditioning system for a vehicle includes an air supply blower, an air chilling device, an air heating device, speed and power sensing systems for determining the speed and power levels at which the blower is operating, a speed governor for controlling the speed at which the blower is operating, a temperature governor, operatively associated with the air chilling and air heating devices, for controlling the temperature of conditioned air supplied by the blower to the interior of the vehicle, and a controller responsive to blower speed and power consumption for operating the temperature governing device.

  • Patent number: 4780333
Abstract: A method is provided of treating an air-contacted surface of an air conditioning system comprising the steps of:(A) introducing to the air passage and air-borne biocide in a biocidally effective amount; and(B) subsequently introducing into the air passage an air-borne biostat adapted to coat the surface with an air-driable, substantially water insoluble biostat coating, the biostat being introduced in an amount sufficient to coat the surface with a biostatically effective coating. According to another aspect of the invention, a kit is provided of interrelated parts for carrying out such treatment method.
