  • Patent number: 9040289
Abstract: A composting system is provided that uses gravity and natural thermal convection to yield a compact, modular, plug-flow compost reactor requiring minimal aeration and agitation energy. The compost reaction takes place in a self-supporting containment unit which is mounted at an angle with respect to its supporting base pad such that minimal external energy is required to mix and transport the composting material during its residence time within the container. The system uses natural convection to supplement external energy in the introduction of air into and through the material. Furthermore, the configuration of the containment unit and its supporting structures allow rapid deployment of compost facilities with minimal permanent civil work and minimal space requirements in a manner that enables subsequent relocation of the equipment.

  • Patent number: 8048668
Abstract: A composting aeration system is provided with a central air duct that is placed in open fluid communication with a plurality of elongated aeration strips, which form a portion of a supporting surface for composting material. One or more aeration hubs or manifolds may be used to place the aeration strips in open fluid communication with the central air duct. The aeration hubs may be provided to selectively vary the fluid flow through the system and substantially limit the passage of debris from the aeration strips to the central air duct. Components to the system are removably coupled with one another to provide ease of cleaning and maintenance between composting operations.
