  • Patent number: 6855828
Abstract: Nitroaromatic compounds and immunogenic conjugates comprising a novel nitroaromatic compound and a carrier protein are disclosed. The invention further presents monoclonal antibodies highly specific for the claimed nitroaromatic compounds, the compounds' protein conjugates, the compounds' reductive byproducts, and adducts formed between the compounds and mammalian hypoxic cell tissue proteins. The invention is further directed to methods for detecting tissue hypoxia using immunohistological techniques, non-invasive nuclear medicinal methods, or nuclear magnetic resonance. Diagnostic kits useful in practicing the methods of claimed invention are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6300136
Abstract: The invention relates to the discovery that the concentration of free cysteine in mammalian tumor tissue is elevated compared with the concentration of free cysteine in non-tumor tissue of the same origin. Elevated levels of free cysteine is, in turn, correlated with resistance of tumors to antitumor therapy such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Therefore, the invention further relates to methods of detecting the presence of tumors in mammalian tissues, assessing the resistance of tumors to antitumor therapies as it relates to free cysteine concentration, and to the identification of compounds which affect free cysteine concentration in mammalian tissues.

  • Patent number: 5223123
Abstract: The cathode sub-assembly of a polarographic sensor comprises an elongate housing with a longitudinal opening therethrough and with noble metal wires extending completely through the opening, the wires held symmetrically in the longitudinal opening by an extensive plug of glass which is solidified in situ in sealing contact with the wires and with the wall of the longitudinal opening. A suitable tubular anode is provided through which the cathode sub-assembly protrudes, and a flexible membrane of an inert material, which is permeable to gas and impermeable to water vapor and other than gaseous dissolved solutes, is secured in sealed relationship over the anode and the cathode, with a film of electrolyte bathing the anode and the cathode and contained by the membrane.
