  • Publication number: 20230366299
Abstract: In a perforating gun, shaped charges can be configured to be rotatable with respect to each other and can be secured in a predetermined phasing by an alignment rod that can be helical with a pitch that defines the phasing. The shaped charges can be supported by holders, which can be directly connected to each other to be infinitely rotatable and can also be attached to and/or retained by the alignment rod via alignment connectors. The alignment connectors can also be configured to hold detonation and signal cords. This shaped charge alignment approach can facilitate manufacturing and assembly, for instance since a single design of holders and other components of the assembly can be used with various different alignment rods to provide the desired phasing based on well design criteria.

  • Publication number: 20230069950
Abstract: An electrical connection system for providing an electrical signal to a detonator of a perforating gun is provided. The system includes a tandem sub operatively coupled to a gun housing and having a sub body having a bore defined therethrough, a bulkhead assembly having a bulkhead electrical connector securable within the bore, and a printed circuit board assembly. The PCB assembly includes a cartridge having a connection bore adapted to receive the bulkhead electrical connector and define a sliding connection between the cartridge and the bulkhead assembly, and an addressable switch located within the cartridge body and in electrical communication with the bulkhead electrical connector. The detonator is located within the cartridge body and is in electrical communication with the addressable switch. The bore, the bulkhead electrical connector, the cartridge and the detonator are concentrically disposed relative to one another and extend along a common axis.

  • Patent number: 11460281
Abstract: Provided is a detonation interrupt device. The detonation interrupt device, in one aspect, includes a first detonation train member positioned within a housing, and a mechanical member positioned proximate the first detonation train member. In this aspect, the mechanical member is movable between a first position physically separating the first detonation train member from a second detonation train member and thereby preventing the first detonation train member from detonating the second detonation train member, and a second position not physically separating the first detonation train member from the second detonation train member and thereby allowing the first detonation train member to detonate the second detonation train member, wherein the mechanical member is configured to automatically move from the first position to the second position as the housing and the second detonation train member move linearly with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 11131168
Abstract: A perforating system and method includes a perforating gun with shaped charges and an orientation device. The orientation device provides an orientation datum. Sensors associated with the perforating gun detect relative alignment of each perforating gun as compared to the orientation datum. A detonation signal can be either sent or not sent to the perforating gun in response to the signal received from the orientation sensor.
