The film coating compositions can be applied as an aqueous suspension either directly to a substrate or after the substrate has been coated with a subcoat. In preferred aspects, the polymer is either an enteric or reverse-enteric polymer. Methods of preparing the dry film coatings, methods of preparing corresponding aqueous suspensions, methods of applying the coatings to substrates and the coated substrates themselves are also disclosed.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a controlled release formulation for an oral dosage form that is formulated into a swellable, hydrophilic matrix. The controlled release formulation contains a mixture of hypromellose and polyvinyl acetate phthalate and allows pharmaceutically active ingredients combined therewith to be released in a controlled release manner.

Abstract: Dry, enteric, film-coating compositions and aqueous dispersions containing the same are disclosed. When applied to orally-ingestible substrates such as oral solid dosage forms, the film coatings are capable of preventing the substrates from disintegrating in media with pH values from about 1 to about 4.5 or higher values. One preferred film-coating composition contains a micronized intermediate comprised of an acrylic resin and talc. Advantageously and surprisingly, the preferred film-coating composition does not contain an alkalizing agent.
