    Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for virtualized proxy services are disclosed herein. Specifically, on one embodiment, a virtual proxy may be implemented in a virtual machine host. The virtual proxy may reside within a dedicated or shared virtual partition and may include a set of access restrictions. In one embodiment, a network including virtual machine hosts having virtual proxies may also provide additional peer-to-peer services. More specifically, a virtual proxy on a virtual host may be configured to broadcast/multicast content requests to other virtual hosts on the network prior to accessing the content from a remote location. If the content has previously been downloaded by another virtual host on the network, the virtual proxy on the requesting host may copy the content from the peer virtual host, instead of downloading the content from the remote location again. A variety of security measures may be implemented in one embodiment to ensure data integrity.

    Abstract: A computer system uses a Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) network to communicate with mass storage devices. The FC-AL network provides alternative communication paths to the mass storage devices. The FC-AL communication network includes a first (60) FC-AL controller within the FC-AL switch (50). A first FC-AL mass storage drive (56) has second (80) and third (82) FC-AL controllers. A first output of the first FC-AL controller is coupled to a first input of the second FC-AL controller, and a second output of the first FC-AL controller is coupled to a first input of the third FC-AL controller. A second FC-AL mass storage drive (94) has fourth (96) and fifth (98) FC-AL controllers. A first output of the second FC-AL controller is coupled to a first input of the fourth FC-AL controller, and a first output of the third FC-AL controller is coupled to a first input of the fifth FC-AL controller. The alternative communication paths to the mass storage devices reduces incident of disk drive access failure.

    Abstract: A back-up power source and a back-up storage device are utilized to power a processor and a volatile memory device during a primary power failure. An emergency data-storage algorithm is invoked to create a table of modified data analogous to data residing in a non-volatile memory device associated with a different processor. This table of modified data is written to the back-up storage device.

    Abstract: Improved expanded PTFE materials and improved gasket materials made therefrom, the gaskets being capable of forming a seal with greater bolt load retention than is possible with existing PTFE gaskets. The expanded PTFE membranes of the invention can be tailored to exhibit a matrix tensile strength in at least one direction of at least 25,000 psi, a matrix tensile strength ratio in two orthogonal directions of between 0.025 and 4, an orientation index of 50° or less, and a density of 2.0 g/cc or less. The improved gaskets exhibit improved mechanical properties such as high bolt load retention, low creep, high tensile strength, low stress to seal and high crystallinity index.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system for the continuous high speed production of non-metallic (NM) sheath cable from bare and insulated single strand conductors continuously produced in a high-speed tandem wire drawing and insulation operation. An automated material handling system is provided for transporting and conveying wire pack containers from coiling strands where the bare and insulated single strand wires are coiled into the containers to a station where the wires are continuously paid-out overhead from the wire pack containers and brought together in a jacketing line where PVC coating compound is extruded thereon. A sheathed cable is then coiled and packaged in a continuous manner. The depleted wire pack containers are then transported back to the coiling stands to close the material handling loop. The system is controlled by a programmable computer which controls the delivery of wire pack containers to various ones of a plurality of conveyor lines on a demand basis.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for paying-out wire from a horizontally disposed coil. The wire is disposed in a stemless wire pack container and payed-out therefrom substantially vertically overhead. The wire is guided about a sheave disposed a substantial distance above the stemless pack at a point disposed on the vertical axis of the coil for substantially reducing the magnitude of the inward component of force acting along the wire as it is withdrawn from the container. A substantially frictionless plastic dish-shaped element rides downwardly and is freely movable on the top of the coil as the wire is payed-out therefrom. The dish-shaped element functions to break up each loop of wire from the remainder of the coil as it is payed-out therefrom without exerting any substantial friction force thereagainst which would tend to mar the finish of the wire.
