  • Patent number: 4432285
Abstract: A multipurpose container for the exigent storage of an explosive device found aboard an aircraft is provided which comprises a bucket-shaped member having a laminated wall structure of at least three metal layers and two foamed plastic layers between the confronting surfaces of the metal layers, and a detachable lid for said member defining a wall portion for said container of foamed plastic only, the laminations providing effective shock wave attenuation and directing a shock wave preferentially in the direction of the lid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 13, 1982
Date of Patent: February 21, 1984
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air Force
Inventors: Carl Boyars, David J. Edwards
  • Patent number: 4359399
Abstract: A color-coded taggant for the post-detonation identification of explosive material. Retrieval of the taggnt after detonation of an explosive is facilitated by the addition of nickel formate to the taggant. The additive renders the taggant magnetically susceptible only after detonation. This eliminates the possiblity of the unauthorized removal of the taggant by a magnet before detonation but retains the advantages of facile retrieval by means of a magnet subsequent to detonation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 27, 1980
Date of Patent: November 16, 1982
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air Force
    Inventor: Carl Boyars
  • Patent number: 4124368
Abstract: The danger of the accidental detonation of large masses of commercial ammum nitrate during handling and storage under normal climatic conditions is reduced by replacing the ammonium nitrate with a solid solution of potassium nitrate in form III ammonium nitrate wherein the potassium nitrate constitutes from more than zero to less than 50 weight percent of the solid solution.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 1976
Date of Patent: November 7, 1978
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
    Inventor: Carl Boyars
  • Patent number: 4094710
