  • Patent number: 5398154
Abstract: A system is provided wherein an IC memory card (10) is inserted into a slot (12) of an electronic device (14), which discharges any static electric charge on the card prior to mating of card and device contacts (32, 34). The card has a frame with opposite sides that have metal clips, and the electronic device has grounding terminals (74, 76) that engage the clips, as the card is inserted.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 27, 1992
Date of Patent: March 14, 1995
    Assignees: ITT Corporation, Intel Corporation
Inventors: Carl C. Perkins, Duncan D. MacGregor
  • Patent number: 5319516
Abstract: A system is provided wherein an IC memory card (10, FIG. 2) is inserted into a slot (12) of an electronic device (14), which discharges any static electric charge on the card. The card includes a frame that comprises a body having opposite side beams and top and bottom conductive covers mounted on the side beams, to enclose a circuit board. The circuit board has a ground plane, and a first of the side beams has an electrically conductive surface portion directly engaged with a peripheral portion of the ground plane and with one of the covers, to connect the cover to the side beam conductive portion. The body can be constructed of molded electrically conductive material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 28, 1993
Date of Patent: June 7, 1994
    Assignee: ITT Corporation
    Inventor: Carl C. Perkins
  • Patent number: 4283747
Abstract: A gas tube surge protector (11) includes a housing (12) and spaced electrodes (14 and 16) which form a gastight envelope (27). A width of a gap (31) between the electrodes is precisely established by urging at last one of the electrodes (14) toward the other. By moving a plunger (66) a stressed center (43) plastically yields to establish the desired gap width. The gap width is controlled by a test set (76) which measures the electrical characteristics of the surge protector.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 1978
Date of Patent: August 11, 1981
    Assignee: Western Electric Co., Inc.
    Inventor: Carl C. Perkins, Jr.
