  • Publication number: 20110301884
Abstract: A storage tank monitoring apparatus includes a measurement device for determining a level of a stored substance within a storage tank. The measurement device is arranged to detect the presence of a second substance in the storage tank. A processor is arranged to generate a signal if the second substance is detected in the storage tank.

  • Patent number: 6578408
Abstract: A testing procedure is disclosed for testing a road tanker, and other transportable storage tanks, for fluid-tightness. A positive test pressure is first applied to one storage compartment of the road tanker, and simultaneously a negative pressure is applied to the outlet pipe of the storage compartment, and a different negative pressure is applied to the vapour recovery manifold. The subsequent pressure variations within the storage compartment, the outlet pipe, the vapour recovery manifold and the adjacent storage compartments are then monitored in order to determine whether the interconnecting valves are leaking, and whether the various compartments under test are fluid-tight.

  • Patent number: 6234216
Abstract: A pipe with a plurality of gas outlet apertures is inserted inside a fill pipe of a liquid storage tank. The fill pipe has an outlet normally covered by the tank contents. The gas pipe conveys the gaseous contents of the fill pipe to a separate outlet as refilling liquid is introduced into the fill pipe. This allows the gas inside the fill pipe to be separately vented from the fill pipe without disturbing the liquid contents of the tank.

  • Patent number: 5668308
Abstract: A method of testing the leakage rates from tanks for containing volatile liquids such as petrol or diesel, with a view to determining whether the tank leaks excessively. The tank is at least partially filled during testing in order to save time. The leakage is detected by sealing the tank and measuring the drop in pressure in the tank over a period of time. In order to measure the rate of leakage, a first measurement is taken during which an amount of 380 ml is removed from the tank over a short period whilst otherwise sealed, with the resultant pressure drop being measured as a calibrated value. The tank is then re-sealed and the pressure drop over the period of an hour is compared with the calibrated value.
