  • Publication number: 20160351058
Abstract: Avionics systems, controllers, and methods are provided. An avionics system includes a display and a controller, and the controller performs a method. The controller is configured to generate an image with a runway characteristic criteria portion, an airport location criteria portion, an airport weather criteria portion, and an airport service criteria portion. The controller receives inputs corresponding to user selected criteria from the portions and filters a list of airports, approaches, runways, or combinations thereof based on comparisons between an approach information database and a user selected runway characteristic criterion and a user selected airport location criterion. The controller further filters the list based on a comparison between an airport services database and a user selected airport service criterion and based on a comparison between current or projected airport weather condition data and a user selected airport weather criterion. The display presents the list.

  • Publication number: 20160046376
Abstract: In one embodiment, multi-mode use of an aircraft cockpit is realized a processor in the aircraft determining whether the aircraft is operating in a flight mode or a non-flight mode. When operating in the non-flight mode, the processor deactivates aircraft engines and permits wireless device access to one or more aircraft systems. When operating in the flight mode, the processor enables aircraft engines and prevents wireless device access to one or more aircraft systems.

  • Patent number: 9114887
Abstract: A method and an instrumentation system for an aircraft are provided. The method of presenting aircraft information includes activating a master indicator in response to a trigger event associated with operation of the aircraft, receiving a user input associated with the master indicator, and displaying information associated with the trigger event in response to receiving the user input associated with the master indicator. The instrumentation system performs the operations of the method.

  • Publication number: 20150106005
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments relate to methods and systems for avoiding a collision between an aircraft on the ground and an obstacle. The method includes receiving a direction signal from a sensor indicating the forward direction of the aircraft and receiving a video image from a camera representing a field of view from a wingtip of the aircraft. Using this information, a processor determines a predicted path through which the wingtip of the aircraft will travel based upon the direction signal. The video image is displayed together with an overlay representing the predicted path within the field of view. In this way, the overlay provides information to assist in preventing the aircraft from colliding with obstacles in the field of view.

  • Publication number: 20140095012
Abstract: A system for providing a checklist to an operator of a vehicle includes, but is not limited to, a processor in communication with a display. Operation of at least one component of the vehicle is sensed and provided to the processor. The processor is configured to generate a checklist based at least in part on the operation of the at least one component of the vehicle. The checklist is then displayed on a display for use by the operator of the vehicles.

  • Patent number: 7184883
Abstract: A a flight instrument enabling a pilot to intercept and precisely follow a predefined GPS track. The instrument—known as a GPS steering indicator—provides a visual display which is similar in appearance to other aircraft instruments (and therefore instantly recognizable to nearly all pilots). However, the instrument is preferably differentiated somewhat in its visual appearance to convey to the pilot the fact that it displays steering commands rather than cross track error. An indicator needle deflects to instruct the pilot which way to turn and how much to turn in order to intercept and fly along a predefined GPS track. By centering the indicator needle, the pilot maintains the desired instantaneous track.
