  • Patent number: 5297544
Abstract: A respirator with an eye space (16), through which the air to be inhaled flows, and with an indicator located on a support for indicating the efficiency of the protective device on the respiration connection, which is to retain the pollutant from the environment. The pollutant indication takes place both in the case of leakages at the sealing zones of the mask or the respiration gas-carrying lines (compressed air respirator) and in the case of insufficient filter effect. To achieve this, the support (10) is arranged on an inner half mask (3) of the respirator, and an access surface, which is exposed to the pollutant and contains the indicator (18, 118), is in flow contact with the air being inhaled, which flows through the passage openings (12, 112) between the eye space (16) of the full mask (1) and the inner half mask space (4).

  • Patent number: 4795611
Abstract: An indicator for the documentation of chlorine by discoloration of potassium iodide applied on a support is to be improved so that it is sufficiently sensitive for the documentation of the low chlorine concentrations and also has, for the documentation of high concentrations, a stable dicoloration. To this end it is provided that the indicator comprises an addition of manganese chloride.

  • Patent number: 4731197
Abstract: A pellet of potassium superoxide, as the oxygen-yielding chemical, with an additive of catalyst material for stimulating the release of oxygen is improved by providing a concentrated addition of the catalyst material on the surface of the pellet; this permits a uniform release of oxygen during the entire period of the use of the pellet. With the pellet, oxygen is split off as required at the very outset of breathing with the breathing apparatus and a release of oxygen in excess of demand as use continues is avoided. A pellet of this type includes a compressed core body containing substantially potassium superoxide and surrounded by a compressed jacket made of highly catalyzed potassium superoxide material.

  • Patent number: 4677096
Abstract: An air cleaning material for use in air filters comprises a porous substrate which contains zinc oxide with a metal salt. The salt advantageously comprises a metal chloride. The porous substrate advantageously comprises activated carbon or a silica gel, molecular sieves or activated alumina may serve as the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4636485
Abstract: Pt catalyst on a substrate provides an air purification particularly for carbon oxide contained in the inhaled air is caused to react with air oxygen on the surface of carbon oxide catalysts and thus removed. But it is desirable for many air filter applications to eliminate, in addition to CO, other harmful gases from the air also. The Pt catalyst used as gaskmask filter material offers, particularly, but little protection additionally against acid gases. Due to an additional impregnation with the oxides of amine-forming heavy metals, the separating powers for acid gases is increased extraordinarily without reducing the capability of the Pt catalyst to oxidize CO catalytically. There even results an intensification of the respective effectiveness.

  • Patent number: 4623637
Abstract: In CO-air filters the poisonous carbon monoxide contained in the air to be breathed is brought into reaction with atmospheric oxygen on the surface of a CO catalyst and thus removed. The Pt-catalyst used to date as air filter material offers diminished protection when humidity levels in the air are high. By being subjected to an extra impregnation with vanadium compounds the capacity of the palladium catalyst to catalyze the oxidation of CO under high humidity is increased remarkably. Effectiveness is even increased under dry conditions.

  • Patent number: 4277443
Abstract: A cartridge for respirators for purifying expiratory air contains a chemical arranged in layers separated by partitions which are connected to a perforated central tube. The partition cooperates with a member spaced from a wall of the cartridge and a guide element disposed on the partition to provide alternate passage of the air into the layers.
