    Abstract: A gauge is provided for measuring the width of a selected word, for example "the", and using this width to determine the number of words per line on a printed page. The same gauge, in one embodiment of the invention, also includes means for determining the number of lines per page thus enabling the user to estimate the number of words per printed page for speed reading purposes.
