A data reading system includes the data reader and media bearing: a visible primary image and a secondary image overlying the visible image.     Abstract: A camera flash unit for illumination of an associated target surface comprises a linearly symmetric flash light source providing light defined as light rays, a reflector directing the light rays from the flash light source towards the associated target surface and a refractive/TIR (Totally Internally Reflective) condenser lens element. The reflector is located adjacent to one side of the flash light source. The refractive/TIR condenser lens element has optical power in two orthogonal directions and is located adjacent to another side of the flash light source. The refractive/TIR condenser lens element has two surfaces--a back surface facing the light source and a front surface. One of the two surfaces is a hybrid refractive/TIR surface, the other of the two surfaces is a refractive surface.

    Abstract: An automatic printer for making prints of normal and panoramic format negative filmstrip image frames arbitrarily interspersed in a single filmstrip. Normal and panoramic projection systems are provided for projecting normal and panoramic images onto respective projection planes of the photographic print paper. Normal and panoramic format image frames are distinguished, and the appropriate projection system is employed through the insertion or withdrawal of a first reflective mirror into the projection path of the image bearing light beam. Zoom lens systems in each projection system are set to the appropriate magnifications for the width of print paper employed. The panoramic projection system employs a precision variable conjugate controlled zoom lens in association with a second movable mirror to adjust object plane to image plane distance to avoid overlap of the normal and panoramic projection planes at each magnification for each paper width.

    Abstract: A high efficiency optical mixer includes a source of focused radiant energy. The focused radiant energy is concentrated by a parabolic concentrator onto an exit port. A diffuse reflector, which can be planar or arcuate, is maintained in contact with the output port thereby minimizing optical losses and diffusely reflecting light from the concentrator. The reflected light can be transmitted, by fiber optics, to an optical system. A method is providing for concentrating focused radiant energy onto a selected area and diffusely reflecting same from that area.
