  • Patent number: 4440351
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for feeding a fluid to a rotary body such as a cylindrical rotary mill. A rotary annular manifold is connected to the mill. A plurality of orifices in the face of the manifold, each with normally closed valves, allows the fluid to enter the manifold for subsequent distribution to the rotary mill. Fluid is transmitted to the rotary manifold from a stationary manifold. Fluid is transmitted to the stationary manifold from a fluid source. The stationary manifold has a cavity which is positioned against the rotary manifold and aligned over several of the orifices. As fluid, under pressure, enters the cavity in the stationary manifold, the fluid pressure opens the orifice valves and enters the rotary manifold. As the manifold rotates, orifices moving past the cavity close preventing the escape of fluid and subsequent orifices pass in front of the cavity allowing more fluid to enter the rotary manifold.

  • Patent number: 4408768
Abstract: A seal for use in sealing an annular opening between a stationary member and a rotating cylinder telescopically arranged in the stationary member, the seal comprising an annular ring member circumscribing the cylinder adjacent the stationary member and closing the annular opening. The seal comprises weighting means extending axially away from a backside of the ring member to provide a counterweighting effect which causes a tilting of the ring member, whereby said tilting, and the rotation of the cylinder, moves the ring member into engagement with the stationary member to substantially seal the annular opening, all in accordance with the teaching of U.S. Pat. No. 3,042,389. The annular ring member is divided into a plurality of circumferentially extending segments in which adjacent segments are pivotally connected to each other to permit articulation of the segments to accommodate "out-of-round" portions of the rotating cylinder, all in accordance with the teachings of U.S. Pat. No. 4,209,175.

  • Patent number: 3955684
Abstract: A rotary crane assembly of the type which is stationarily supported on the ground and which assembly includes a large mounting ring on which a revolvable frame is supported for revolving about a generally vertical axis. The revolvable frame has an upwardly extending boom and also a mast, both of which can be vertically positioned between a horizontal position and an upwardly extending working position. The assembly also includes a mobile power unit which can be driven up on the frame and located diametrically opposite above the ring from that side on which the mast and boom are pivotably mounted. Thus, the mobile power unit is secured in place on the frame and provides the power and counterbalancing for the boom and mast and by means of which the boom and mast can be erected. The mobile power unit may be of either the endless track type or rubber track type and a self-propelled unit having a lower ground engaging portion and an upper revolvable portion containing the host drums.
