    Abstract: A polymeric coating composition chemically grafts to cellulose or synthetics, and the resulting product serves as a filter in a filtration system which keeps the filtered liquid or gas clean by removing soot, solids, liquids and other contaminants, thus maximizing the life of equipment or engines. The coating is developed using chemical grafting that involves the use of monomers, prepolymers, catalysts, a graft initiator system and/or other ingredients. The resulting coating is used to treat cotton, other cellulose materials, synthetic materials and combinations thereof, and provides for graft-polymerization, thereby forming a polymeric film which is chemically bonded to the cotton fiber, other cellulose fibers, synthetics or combinations thereof with excellent adhesion, thereby imparting all the desired properties to the fiber in terms of increased filtration efficiency.

The germicidal filter media is prepared by contacting the media with a grafting solution comprising one or more monomers, a catalyst, a surface agent, a curign agent, at least one graft initiator, and at least on germicide and subsequently curing the media at an elevated temperature to chemically graft the polmerizable monomers onto a surface of the media and associate at least one germicide thereto. Filter media suitable for use in the present invention include ceramic spheroids, hollow glass spheres, polmeric type meida, thermoset coated glass spheres, and crystalline microporous materials, such as zeolites.

    Abstract: A composition and method that provides a chemically grafted coating onto a substrate. The composition comprises an acrylate and a grafting initiator. The acrylate may be a waterborne urethane acrylate. The composition may also comprise resistance agents, adhesion agents, UV curing photoinitiators, defoaming agent, and/or deglossing agents. The substrate may be any wood or plastic, but works well with heat shrinkable polyolefin tubing. The composition may also be quick curing such that the coating from the composition may be cured under a D bulb and an H bulb at a rate of 100-160 feet/minute. The coating on the substrate resists delamination and wear. The coating may have indicia printed on the coating, the indicia being composed from ink or other printable materials.

    Abstract: This invention relates to the coating of steel parts with organic polymeric materials for resistance to corrosion, abrasion, impact, salt solutions of high and low pH (both in liquid as well as vapor state) and corrosive atmospheric gases under the environment of high relative humidity and ambient conditions of temperature and pressure. To obtain secure and permanent adhesion of the coating on the steel article a polymeric coating is formulated so as to achieve chemical grafting to the steel face. This involves the use of monomers, prepolymers, catalyst and a graft initiator system. The monomers are preferably polyfunctional and when applied onto a metallic substrate, react via graft polymerization with the metal to form a polymerized layer coated onto the surface of the steel substrate.

    Abstract: A coating formulation for application to surfaces associated with combustion, such as fuel injectors, and surfaces subjected to elevated temperatures, such as fuel supply components, to prevent the deposition at high temperatures of carbon or graphite on such surfaces, such as stainless steel and alloyed steel compositions. The coating formulation forms a thin layer of polymer coating on the surface by chemical grafting involving the use of a graft initiator to create active bonding sites, on the metal surface, for the silicone-based prepolymer to undergo polymerization on the metal surface. The bonding and polymerization are completed in a single application process without using complex equipment. The coating and process helps surfaces associated with combustion and surfaces subjected to elevated temperature reduce carbon or coke formation at temperatures up to 700° F. and thereby improves the durability and performance of those surfaces.
