The silicone, while a liquid, forms a layer on the liner. UV radiation cures the liquid silicone and causes it to become a coherent, virtually solid layer. Heating the cured silicone layer and allowing it to rest for a short period of time then permits the immediate contact with it of the label's adhesive side without incurring inseparability of the silicone-coated liner from the adhesive-coated label.

    Abstract: A spooling apparatus attachable to a printing press and operating under pneumatic control and power. An elongated web passes through a linear slitter, over a unidirectional roller, and onto a take-up spool. The spool rotates on power received through a belt drive and a variable speed gear box from the press itself. Upon the receipt of a signal from the press, a pneumatically controlled and powered knife cuts the web and urges it onto another spool. A spring dampener keeps the knife from bouncing and produces a clean cut. When the knife returns to its original position, the pneumatics applies a brake to the full spool to stop its rotating and allow the operator to remove the spooled web. The pneumatics then lifts a cam follower from a stop in a cam and engages a clutch to rotate the frame which holds the rollers for the spooling. This brings the filling spool to the location previously occupied by the full spool. There it continues to rotate and take up the web.

    Abstract: A core upon which may be wound a strip of material, more specifically, a strip of labels attached to a liner by an adhesive. The core includes a tube having circular cylindrical symmetry and a coating of a temporary adhesive. The adhesive should have less tackiness than that holding the labels to its liner. In more general terms, the adhesive attached to the tube for holding the web should have a tackiness that should not require a pull force to remove common bond paper from the core of more than about five ounces per inch of width with a 90 degree pull. The adhesive should appear at some axial location over at least 85 percent of the circumference of the tube. Preferably, it will occur on at least 95 percent of the circumference. Making the core involves permanently attaching the adhesive to a tube having cylindrical symmetry. Attaching a web proceeds, after making the core, with contacting the core with the web and then rotating the core about the tube's axis of cylindrical symmetry.
