  • Publication number: 20090134110
Abstract: The present embodiments relate to a bottle capable of holding and selectively dispensing at least two different substances. The bottle comprises an outer container having a reservoir adapted to receive a first substance, and an inner container having a reservoir adapted to receive a second substance. When assembled, the inner container is removably disposed within a portion of the outer container. The bottle further comprises a valve having a first configuration adapted to inhibit flow from the inner and outer containers, a second configuration adapted to permit flow from the inner container and inhibit flow from the outer container, and a third configuration adapted to permit flow from the outer container and inhibit flow from the inner container. Tactile feedback is provided to the user to know when the valve moves from one configuration to another.

  • Publication number: 20080277636
Abstract: A hand tool having an elongated plunger assembly that is rotatably and movably disposed in a socket. The plunger assembly can be rotated between a first orientation and a second orientation as well as being moved between a first, withdrawn position and a second, extended position. The plunger assembly also has an upper notch and a lower notch on a front side and at least one generally flat lateral side. A fixed latch member extends across a portion of the socket and defines a narrow passage within the socket. The hand tool, preferably, includes a compression spring biasing the plunger assembly toward the extended position.

  • Publication number: 20080192881
Abstract: A portable multiplicity counter has signal input circuitry, processing circuitry and a user/computer interface disposed in a housing. The processing circuitry, which can comprise a microcontroller integrated circuit operably coupled to shift register circuitry implemented in a field programmable gate array, is configured to be operable via the user/computer interface to count input signal pluses receivable at said signal input circuitry and record time correlations thereof in a total counting mode, coincidence counting mode and/or a multiplicity counting mode. The user/computer interface can be for example an LCD display/keypad and/or a USB interface. The counter can include a battery pack for powering the counter and low/high voltage power supplies for biasing external detectors so that the counter can be configured as a hand-held device for counting neutron events.

  • Publication number: 20080094033
Abstract: A battery backup system includes a control device including a power sensing device, a discharge circuit, a charging circuit, and a plurality of battery packs. A lower threshold is established representative of a minimum acceptable effective energy capacity. Each battery pack is recharged if its effective energy capacity falls below the lower threshold. Additionally, an upper threshold is established representative of the minimum acceptable effective energy capacity plus a performance margin. In a two battery-pack system, if both battery packs fall below the upper threshold, the battery with the least effective energy capacity is discharged to the minimum acceptable effective energy capacity and then recharged to the battery pack's maximum energy capacity. In this way, both battery packs are prevented from approaching the minimum acceptable effective energy capacity at the same time. This reduces the size or number of battery packs and reduces their associated cost and volume.

  • Publication number: 20070182542
Abstract: A self-contained backup power source such as a battery is provided for components within an electrically powered device such as a storage controller, photocopier or the like, to maintain diagnostic status data and to power a service indicator aid, or diagnostic indicator, such as an LED. A switch selects the backup power source when a primary power source of the electrically powered device is no longer available to the component, such as when the component is removed from the electrically powered device, the primary power source is disconnected as a safety precaution when servicing or replacing the component, or a higher-level assembly, in which the component is provided, is removed from the electrically powered device. The diagnostic indicator may be powered separately from the data storage device.

  • Publication number: 20070137087
Abstract: A removable integrated target-illuminating device holder and grip apparatus and method thereof are disclosed. The apparatus mounts to an existing forestock of a weapon with an interference fit actuated by a single screw. The apparatus also includes a passage for receiving the barrel of a target illumination device. Resilient prongs are provided adjacent the rear of the passage to press the illumination device longitudinally along approximately the same axis as the weapon's barrel to prevent dislodgment upon movement of the weapon during handling or discharge, and to enable relatively quick, one-handed release and replacement of the entire illumination device.

  • Patent number: 7111407
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for aligning a vertical shaft or multiple axially coupled vertical shafts in a hydroelectric turbine generator or a similar vertical-shaft system, and for providing precise plumb inclination alignment of a vertical rotating shaft. Precision inclinometers attached to the vertical shaft measure plumb inclination. Proximity probe displacement devices mounted externally of the vertical shaft measure radial movement, throw, or run out at various shaft elevations as the shaft is rotated relative to a fixed point. Data acquisition devices and communication devices accumulate and transmit alignment data to a micro-computer which receives and processes such data. Methods of defining shaft plumb inclination in a static single rotational position and defining plumb inclination of the virtual centerline of a shaft's rotational throw position. A method of swinging, tilting, or adjusting a vertical shaft to a corrected or different plumb position relative to the earth's gravity.

  • Publication number: 20060200685
Abstract: A method is disclosed to selectively provide power to a component disposed in an information storage and retrieval system. Applicants' method supplies a controller comprising a control portion in combination with a plurality of components comprising one or more host adapters, one or more device adapter ports, and a Fibre Channel switch. The method monitors the performance of each of those components. The method discontinues the supply of power to first component while continuing to provide power to the remaining plurality of components. The method then resumes providing power to the first component while continuing the supply of power to the remaining plurality of components.

  • Publication number: 20060168397
Abstract: A method for processing a point-in-time copy of data associated with a logical storage volume where the data to be copied is stored in a striped or parallelized fashion across more than one physical source volume. The method includes receiving a point-in-time copy command concerning a logical volume and distributing the point-in-time copy command in-band to each of the physical source volumes containing a portion of the striped data. The method also includes establishing a point-in-time copy relationship between each physical source volume and one of a corresponding set of multiple physical target volumes. The method further includes copying the data stored on each physical source volume to the corresponding physical target volume. The in-band copy command and the striped data may be distributed over I/O channels between a server and the physical storage and processed sequentially.

  • Publication number: 20060164795
Abstract: Systems and methods for thermally isolating multiple energy producing entities and for monitoring the operational status of each entity. A thermal dielectric placed between each of the multiple energy producing entities creates isolation or containment zones, and a monitor provided within each isolation or containment zone determines the operational status of each entity. The thermal dielectric minimizes the adverse impact a failed entity can have on neighboring entities by isolating loads generated from each individual energy producing entity. The thermal dielectric also helps isolate a monitor within one isolation or containment zone from conditions existing in a neighboring zone. Each monitor helps to identify the operational status and conditions of one of the isolation or containment zones and a corresponding one of the entities located within such zone.

  • Publication number: 20060151553
Abstract: Cargo rack systems are described. The systems include side rails that are easily attached to support members mounted on a vehicle's roof portion. The side rails include an opening such as a channel portion formed on a top surface thereof. One or more fastening members are then employed to secure the side rails to the stanchions. The cross rails are easily attached to the side rails in any number of configurations. The cross rails are fastened to a stanchion with one or more fastening members, wherein the stanchion fits over the cross rail, with the stanchion being fastened to the side rail with a clamp member that is fastened to the stanchion by one or more fastening members. In this manner, any number of different combinations and different types of cargo rack systems may be easily attached to the vehicle's roof portion.
