  • Patent number: 6971196
Abstract: A message sign includes a panel having a plurality of ribs each defining an interior channel. The plurality of ribs are preferably spaced apart in parallel relationship. At least one lamp is secured through an opening in at least one of the ribs. In one preferred embodiment, the message sign includes a first and second panel, each preferably including a base web, wherein the ribs of the first and second panels extend outwardly from the base web of the respective panels. The base webs of the first and second panels are abutted with the ribs thereof extending outwardly therefrom in opposite directions. The first and second panels are oriented such that at least some of the channels of the first panel cross at least some of the channels of the second panel and form a plurality of junctures of crossing channels. Preferably, at least one lamp is secured through an opening in at least one of the plurality of ribs at one of the junctures. A method of manufacturing a message sign is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4973190
Abstract: Traffic control devices are employed for providing temporary delineation and demarcation of traffic lanes in order to guide the flow of traffic through detours, construction areas, and the like. Normally, ballasts used with traffic control elements have been bags containing a stabilizing material such as sand. Such traffic control elements are subject to improvement. They do not permit the stabilizing material to be spread uniformly across the bottom of the traffic control element. Sandbags become lodged against one side of the traffic control element during assembly, or they are thrown against one side on impact. And none of the stabilizing materials in use lend themselves to disassembly and transportation when the traffic control elements are moved to a new hazardous site. Such shortcomings are overcome by the improvement herein.

  • Patent number: 4859983
Abstract: A traffic barricade of the A-frame type constructed of a lightweight material such as plastic to have a forbidding appearance. The barricade members are unitarily constructed to be interchangeable and with integral hinge mechanisms. The hinge mechanisms have detenting elements for improving the resistance to winds tending to cause the closure of the "A" stance of the barricade. The barricade permits a damaged hinge element to be readily replaced. Ballast may be added to a storage compartment arranged adjacent the supporting surface for the barricade. The design of the plastic barricade permits a warning light to be directly secured by a mounting bolt functioning as a hinge pin. The individual barricade members may be stacked with substantially no relative movement of the stacked members.

  • Patent number: 4782783
Abstract: A traffic channelizer mountable vertical panel molded of a resilient, impact resistant, plastic material. The vertical panel has a pair of mounting legs securable to the top of the traffic channelizer to permit the vertical panel area to extend above the channelizer. The legs are constructed so as to be bendable in response to wind forces without tipping over the channelizer and springing back to a vertical position when the bending forces subside.
