  • Patent number: 5347367
Abstract: A cathode-ray tube comprises an evacuated envelope having a faceplate panel with a sidewall joined to a funnel. A shrinkfit implosion protection band surrounds at least a portion of the sidewall and is in contact therewith. A plurality of openings are formed in the implosion protection band to support a degaussing coil. The implosion protection band is improved over prior bands by providing a cavity in the band around at least three sides of each of the openings. The cavity is directed toward the sidewall of the panel so that the openings in the band are spaced therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4992698
Abstract: A color picture tube, includes an envelope having a faceplate panel and a tubular neck interconnected by a funnel. A three-color phosphor screen is formed on the interior surface of the faceplate and a multi-apertured color selection electrode is spaced from the screen. An electron gun is disposed within the neck of the tube. The electron gun includes three cathodes and a plurality of spaced-apart electrodes, having substantially aligned apertures therethrough, for generating and directing three electron beams along paths toward the screen. Each of the electrodes is secured to a plurality of longitudinally extending insulative support rods by at least two oppositely disposed, integral attachment elements, each having a distal end, a proximal end and an appendage portion therebetween. The distal end of each attachment elements includes a bifurcated portion including spaced-apart grasping members to facilitate attachment to the support rods.

  • Patent number: 4877998
Abstract: An improved color display system includes a cathode-ray tube and a magnetic deflection yoke positioned on the tube. The tube includes an envelope having an inline electron gun for generating and directing three inline beams along initially coplanar paths toward a screen on an interior surface portion of the envelope. The gun includes a plurality of spaced electrodes which comprise three lenses. The first lens includes a beam-forming region for providing substantially symmetrical beams to a second lens. The second lens includes a first modulation electrode for providing asymmetrically-shaped beams to a third, or main, lens. At least one and preferably two dynamic voltage signals are applied to the modulation electrode of the second lens. Another dynamic voltage signal is applied to a second modulation electrode of the third lens. The voltage signals are related to the deflection of the beams and improve the electron beam spot size at the periphery of the tube screen.
