    Abstract: A liquid chromatography column apparatus which utilizes sorbent packing material in a tube having a first end portion and a second end portion. The first end portion of the tube includes a plug having a passage therethrough. The plug fits in the tube adjacent the packing material and is movable within the tube. An end fitting is also employed adjacent the plug. The end fitting has a passage therethrough which communicates with the passage of the plug. A seal is used inside the tube between the tube and the end fitting. The second end portion of the tube is enclosed and also includes a passage from the interior to the exterior of the tube. A manually actuable gear mechanism is incorporated in the end fitting of the first end portion of the tube for facilitating application of axial force to the packing material, thereby compressing the packing material so as to eliminate voids and channels in the packing material. Other features are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A hand-held manually operated pipette having an adjustable plunger stroke and calibrated electronic digital volumetric display draws-up and dispenses viscous, dense or high vapor pressure liquids by means of an easily replaced, disposable, integral, positive displacement type plunger tip and capillary assembly. The pipette in another form utilizes a disposable air displacement capillary. The plunger adjustably strokes to a first stop in a first mode for calibration or sample draw-up and dispensing with the volume of pipette liquid contents continuously displayed. In a second mode an over-travel arrangement enables the plunger shaft to stroke beyond the first stop to permit collet type attachment and ejection of the integral plunger tip and capillary for positive displacement service or to eject an air displacement capillary.

    Abstract: A sample injection valve using a member having four ports as a fluid system inlet, a sample injection inlet, a fluid system outlet, and a vent. The valve also uses a fluid sample reservoir and includes a controller for simultaneously connecting the fluid system inlet and outlet and interposing the fluid reservoir between the sample injection inlet and the vent. A switch changes the position of the fluid reservoir to one of interposition between the fluid system inlet and the fluid system outlet.

    Abstract: An injection device for use with a fluid transporting cannula and a female fitting for a liquid system. The cannula is surrounded by a first sleeve which in itself is surrounded by a second sleeve. The end portion of the second sleeve places within the female fitting. A first seal is formed about the opening in the base of the female fitting and a second seal is formed between the first sleeve and the outside of the cannula. A force producing element urges the end portion of the second sleeve toward the base of the female fitting.
