  • Patent number: 6371334
Abstract: A device for use in a gift/sample box or for test marketing a perfume, such as to a focus group, includes a smaller or miniature version of a perfume bottle, a removable dispensing vial of perfume, and a top. Various bottle designs can be tested with different perfumes or the same perfume, because the perfume vial is removable from each test bottle. Similarly, the device can be used in a gift/sample pack, the miniature version of the bottle evoking the bottle design of a commercially available perfume which sales it is designed to improve, and having a smaller volume of perfume that a merely smaller version of the bottle in which the commercially available perfume is sold.

  • Patent number: 6138688
Abstract: A unitary assembly that clusters a mirror, a lipstick and a cosmetic pencil, making it possible to store these items as a unit in a purse so that they are readily accessible to a user. The assembly is provided with a rectangular plastic frame on whose front face is supported the mirror. Projecting from the rear of the frame are end jaws adjacent opposite sides of the frame and an intermediate jaw between the end jaws. One end jaw in conjunction with the intermediate jaw acts as a flexible clip to clamp the lipstick to the frame. The other end jaw in conjunction with the intermediate jaw acts as a flexible clip to clamp the cosmetic pencil to the frame. The end jaws also function as a handle for the mirror so that as the user holds the mirror with one hand, and looks into it she can with her other hand grasping the lipstick or the cosmetic pencil, then apply color to her lips.

  • Patent number: 5836319
Abstract: A travel cosmetic compact which in a single jar-like package supplies its user with a facial cosmetic, an applicator therefor and a mirror. The compact includes an upper section having a cylindrical shell adapted to accommodate a cosmetic, such as a pressed powder pad, and a lid screwed onto the shell to hermetically seal the cosmetic. Integrated with the upper section is a lower section defining a cylindrical chamber having an opening inlet to admit a cylindrical pull-out drawer adapted to accommodate a mirror and an applicator for the cosmetic, such as a powder puff.

  • Patent number: 5638838
Abstract: A cosmetic compact formed by an open container having stored therein a facial powder, and a hinged cover to close the container, the cover having a mirror mounted on its inner wall which when the cover is swung open to assume a predetermined obtuse viewing angle, the user holding the compact can then observe her face while applying powder thereto. The hinge includes a pair of spaced gudgeons projecting from the rear wall of the container and bridged by a pivot pin, each gudgeon having formed on one side a stop positioned between the corresponding end of the pivot pin where it joins the gudgeon and the rear wall. At the rear of the cover at a right angle thereto is a pair of resilient jaws formed by parallel front and back plates which snap-fit into the space between the gudgeons to clamp onto the pin. When the cover is swung open to assume the predetermined obtuse angle with respect to the container, the leading edge of the front plate then abuts the stops and the cover is thereby maintained at this angle.

  • Patent number: 5358101
Abstract: A display case assembly adapted to store at least one bottle or other container and to protectively house this bottle within a display case formed by a tray and a cover therefor. The bottle is provided with a removable cap whose top end has a distinct geometric form and a base whose bottom end has a distinct geometric form. The top end of the bottle is nested within a similarly shaped socket formed on an upper retainer plate pressed against the upper wall of the tray. The bottom end of the bottle is nested within similarly-shaped socket formed in a lower retainer plate that rests on and compresses a resilient foam-plastic pad seated on the lower wall of the tray. The bottle is subjected to pressure by the compressed pad which holds it in place and acts as a shock mounting. The case may be made of transparent material so that the bottle housed therein is exhibited.

  • Patent number: 5163456
Abstract: A comb and mirror-tray assembly which when in a storage mode the mirror-tray then acts to protect the comb nested therein. In a combing mode, the user who has withdrawn the comb from the mirror-tray can then view her hair in the mirror as she combs it. And in an easel mode in which the comb acts as a stand for the mirror-tray, the user may then view her face in the mirror as she applies makeup thereto. The tray, which is generally rectangular in form and has the mirror secured to its bed, is surrounded by a peripheral wall, a transverse slot being formed in the bed between the end of the mirror and the wall. In the storage mode, the comb snaps into the tray to overlie the mirror, the comb being withdrawn from the tray in the combing mode. In the easel mode, the comb is inserted in the transverse slot to serve as a stand forming an angle with the mirror-tray to support it on a table or other surface.

  • Patent number: 5163457
Abstract: A travel compact for housing a cosmetic supply and a mirror, both of which in a storage mode of the compact are encased therein, the supply and the mirror being both exposed in a utility mode whereby the user may then view her face as she applies the cosmetic thereto. The compact includes a small rectangular case having an open front end and a top wall whose front section has an open window therein. Slidable in the case through its open end is a drawer whose top wall includes in its rear section a shallow well having a mirror nested therein, a front section on which is printed identifying indicia and a deeper well intermediate the front and rear sections in which a cosmetic supply is stored. In the storage mode, the drawer is pushed fully within the case, the window in the case being then closed by the front section of the drawer to expose the indicia through the window. In the utility mode, the drawer is pulled out to an extent exposing the cosmetic supply and aligning the mirror with the window.

  • Patent number: 5163581
Abstract: A dispenser cartridge loaded with identical mini-compacts containing a test sample of a particular cosmetic such as lip gloss or eye shadow, thereby making it possible for consumers, before purchasing this cosmetic, to try out the sample. The cartridge, which is vertically mounted, includes a gravity-feed channel accommodating a stack of mini-compacts, the lowermost of which rests on a ledge in alignment with an exit slot. Below the slot is a slidable ejector which when pulled out acts to withdraw the lowermost mini-compact through the slot. And when the ejector, after the withdrawn mini-compact is removed therefrom, is pushed back, then the mini-compact, which is now lowermost, falls on the ledge in readiness for the next ejector action. The cartridge, when exhausted, is refillable through a channel inlet at the upper end of the cartridge.
